BMW M3e30 1/24

Ok, here back home and this time I wanna work over a too nice bmw of the past. I love old glories, and being myself a bimmer I would love to add to my collection the nice m3e30, first real M car of the 80s.
The only model on the market is the old fujimi kit. as well as the m3e46 nobody makes something decent about this car.neither in slot world u can take something lookingalike the real stuff.
What u get in the recently reissued fujimi model is first of all a new, stunning, really nice and welldetailed boxart:

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-danWpx_d1ts/Ux4F-6sRfmI/AAAAAAAAZQ4/GuZjKOJpYD8/w500-h311-no/1000x1000.jpg

..that makes u dream immediately, but the dreams becomes a nightmare when u open the box and u start study with a modellistic eye the plastics. searching around....u see what u finally could get with such model.
This stuff:

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-xaCQO2fSboY/Ux4GAE-JMVI/AAAAAAAAZRQ/-70T2iX3TTc/w600-h296-no/FUJ12572.jpg

...that honestly dont looks so much similar to a bmw m3e30..

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-YzddngB_ekY/Ux4GBmHurII/AAAAAAAAZRs/06hToqySjBE/w877-h660-no/Grey_BMW_M3_E30_fr.jpg

...so then u start searching other pics of what u would like to collect (without thinking at what u already get in the kit..)
and I would love this stuff:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-P0HfXyvMIIA/Ux4GAPzF98I/AAAAAAAAZRU/oNsEOeF8x7Y/w880-h660-no/517dfe741b50021584.jpg

or even better..something (for me) even more nicer, that is the racer version..

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4XNcht2VqqE/Ux4F-17Z42I/AAAAAAAAZRA/xQCOiW-_sSo/w880-h660-no/1231407932_bmw_m3_series_e30_17.jpg

now compare this last pic to the one of the already finished fujimi model..and u will cry for some nights...:crying::crying::crying:...

To be continued... :naughty:

I think Scale Production were working on an e30 M3 Body with correct body proportions. I recently build the e30 320i by Fujimi, terrible kit!

after ending the tears duning those windy nights, I started study carefully what i have in my hands. It seems the whole body is too squared and lowered from the blueprints of the real car. As many other modellers pointed out the main mistake is around the roof , that here seems coming from an ugly lowrider.
But more u go on checking the body, more u see....tthat nose end section is mistaken and poor of details too, as well as the rear end looks more similar to a volvo 850 than to an e30 serie.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-_PO42RUgo1g/Ux4GCTPobAI/AAAAAAAAZR4/UdacGw2IpNU/w1190-h668-no/WP_20140305_001.jpg

some resin come to fix this issue. Not completely, but is anyway better than nothing...

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Qhr6ac8iLjI/Ux4GD8uqGxI/AAAAAAAAZSE/8NgByyuv4JQ/w1175-h660-no/WP_20140305_003.jpg

but it does not fit at all to kit nose, this cause the plastics are 3mm wider than the resin.so it is necessary cut all the upper bonnet and "eat" those 3 mm up there to make it fit correctly

thank u guys. Mikhail, your build and your help made me start with this :)
So, the front end is now reduced in dimension and it matchs to resin part, but also the rear trunk is a nightmare (still soo similar to volvo850..:sly: ) and some surgeon is necessary also here.In the meanwhile I recognize ALL the rear must be cutted, as well as the rear bumber. Mistaken also this one in size and shape..

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-cn1nn7dZ1Ok/Ux4GJU79C_I/AAAAAAAAZTY/efdjU1a8Yng/w1175-h660-no/WP_20140305_014.jpg

but as u see from this picture, also here the plastics are wider up to 2 mm than the resin parts

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-wJL9sVv1q3E/Ux4GK1nFPzI/AAAAAAAAZTw/QdYFEoXNTiI/w1175-h660-no/WP_20140306_002.jpg

so..some further deep surgeon is necessary again. :naughty::naughty::naughty:

I think Mike already was planning it since sometime. He also surely likes such bmw´s and has surely skilled modellers able to make masters better than me or even better some 3d designers. My greatest hope was always around Mikhail, for his eyes and skills in such kinda works.
Surely in the future u all will have something decent to work on.maybe even from revell, who knows, lets go on click the like on theri dreampage (I already did 3 times, lol)
About resin copies I am a little hopeless, cause still at today I didnt find a decent way to make theme alone.Asked Chris and the skilled guys around here. Think the best could be Romik, but other friends told me he is already too busy, so I neither dare to ask him for now. :(
More, if u plan to sell something like this, I would deeply suggest to sell a full kit and not a transkit, cause the fujimi is already OOP again and is already easy to find it around 50 usd. U need a correct cockpit too and some nice wheels, depending if u wanna build a rally or a track car.

For me, NOW, the only way to make it is "devastate" the fujimi body with my blades. Is stuff I like a lot to do, even if also this time is a body work only (as well as my porsches and soon other stuff u will see on those screens. have a LOT of car bodies I want to make, all racers).
It is anyway a not so hard work to do. Honestly. Think really too many ones here inside can do it with a little patience.

Now is time 4me to retake the energy and appreciate some of the greatest stuff available from the wonderful northsea in this season...

the front lip spoiler, optional on real cars, I would like to reproduce is the one clearly visible here:

time ti refill the front lip. I wanted to make it a little bigger in the beginning to have more material to cut down in appropriate shape. Now is the correct size and shape. Mostly was waiting for a good dremel blade saw to make it without "eating" too much material.
ALso the first door panel line has been refitted and cleaned. Mikhail was too right in correcting it on his model, and is always too useful study his works. This is a line some modellers cant neither note...

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-wi1av85s-Vo/U1JLdobBbBI/AAAAAAAAcAg/wZsj4abIs7Y/w1248-h701-no/%255BUNSET%255D

then time to remake the front and rear windshield. For this I used a clear plastic box.The front one has been thermoformed over the original one provided in the kit, to increase just a little the overall dimension not fitting any longer after the cutting of the front pillars.
Side windows are straight ones, so no problems with theme

This is not a bad base, far from it. However some work is expected Anyway I like these kit and specially work on these kits this is a kit rest I would not madness above, from the box almost specially its shape is amazing for me...

the madness above is to (try) give justice to this beautiful german coffin of the '80s.
As it comes from original fujimi box it looks like a volvo 850 sedan, more than a BMW (nothing against my beloved volvos. own also one, even if much newer one..)
Real "rest models" to be build straight from the boxes are imho only recent tamiya/aoshima kit. These old fujimi are rare, expensive and quite ugly in look.Even more with box tiny wheels. :lol2:

dont think for now to be able to finish something for scandinavian modelling contest, cause I still miss part of the stuff to paint up there, but maybe if something around Gothenburg area and I am there in the dates I will surely visit theme (in summetime I am also a sailing istructor ,reason why I slow down a little my modelling in summertime ....;)

From all the pics I've seen around also from friends from ipms sweden, the quality level of the models is always impressive.

the trasparents are just coming from the achetate box u can find in shop selling t-shirts and underwears. I just check the ones with less scratch. material is very easy to glue and moulded with hairdryer. works nearly perfectly for windshields and side windows.

had a lot of troubles in glossy and polishing.
The biggest is that probabloy I work with too few glue and those heavy cut/paste parts makes the model really fragile.

During the glossying had some issue with gx100 thinner. probably something mistaken in thinnering it cause it seems like to make a white powder in some area. dunno what is due this for. maybe humidity?.
the sanding and polishing was a real hell. is horrible work feeling a lot of crakk crakk crakk allover the model. the fear to break something is always high. add to this this car has a lot of area (like the blacks around windows) that is flat or semi/gloss.

Anyway here is what I did

thank you my friend. yes the livery is quite extreme, just not to make the usual warsteiner bmw.
This one was used by a great italian pilot. emanuele Pirro, several times le mans winner with audi, and a great modeller too...

Nearly done with decals btw. with all m3 gauges in position I finally can see clearly the car, and the resul is really convincing.
The clear parts are made in acethate. It is possible to use still the fujimi front windshield, cause they made it quite big in the original bizarre moulding.

ps. always sorry for the pics. new iphone arriving in few days. I am done with lumia stuff...
Make a wip takes a lot of time to modelling, I feel it a lot this time, but want to complete this, at least in my fav. car modelling forum :)

sometimes I look back at the staring point of this models. They are a jurney into modelling :)
Just thinking at the original stuff you find inside fujimi box:

..this said, I really HOPE some company will make it. also slot, also in resin or whatever, but for any bmw lover is a must have the e30 in the own collection :)

and then time to complete the body with side windows. as said I made all theme with clear acethate. last decal to apply will be name Pirro on the rear side windows. The car will be a curbside, so waiting just to complete the moke up of the few interior, and terminate it with its setup

Great build!
I know this is really too late, but I stumbled over some reference pictures of this M3 last night while looking at the Zakspeed website.

http://www.zakspeed.de/index.php/de/referenzprojekt/item/207-bmw-m3.html

In the last images it is restored as the Pirro car even :-)

References helps a lot anyway cause now I know how to paint the interiors :)

Ok then, after the possibility to buy extra parts from the beemax m3 I can finish this car.
I think looking back now, and after all my efforts to have a decent shape for this e30, I will go for a raced/wet finish for her. Also gave 4 rain tires on those studio27 metal rims ( they were expensive nearly as the entire beemax kit, lol 😂).

That’s how it goes in modelling, now the trick is just to make a realistic racing weathering...

so I weathered the body with smoke and oil paints, trying to save the shade on main windshield from wiper

so happy for the ban find i could do after that guy asking for a spare beemax part in the general section of the forum.
the parts I found are exactly what I need, seems incredible i can finally give an end, i hope decent, to this extremely hard model.
The cockpit needs minor fitting, measures match nearly perfectly to what I did here, only I recognize my hand was a little bit different and now some solutions I would have made different, and probably better.

Looking the body parts also, it seems to me beemax made the last evolution of the m3, with bigger and wider rear lights. while fujimi made the first edition, with (for me) more familiar dimension on rear lights.
