3'' gave 20 to the wheels.
I want to see the dyno sheet. I strongly disagree that 3'' exhaust tubing increased HP ot 20HP to the wheels. Like i said, i can see that with a V-8 or like you said a Turbo Charged engine, but not a stock 3.8.
A firebird V-6 is deeper than a mustang V-6.

aww, your power wagon right? So anyway, back on topic here...flyguy86, did you get your exhaust done? if so how does it sound with that 2.5in tubing exiting out of the performance muffler you chose?:iceslolan I bet it crackles at 4 grand when you let off after it hits the rev limiter.

No I have two vehicles. AF only lets you put on one car in your profile, so I had to choose. Anyway it's an 87 dodge Daytona.
And notice how I said CAR, unlike if I would have said TRUCK? Way to be on the stick there buddy

Well, looks as though we have a wise guy here. Well, really it don't matter if you said car or not. The fact is, i don't think you are too bright with your suggestions on helping people out here, if you ask me the only think you are good at is trying to scold people. I have never ran into someone who had a problem with exhaust tips before. Tips are what give style and dictate mostly how the exhaust tone will be. So anyway PWMAN, you have greatly showed me that YOU deserve this fine award. :grinyes:
Congratulations PWMAN i award you the ass clown award.:iceslolan

flyguy86, i sure hope you didn't go with the 2.5 inch tubing out the rear. the ravin muffler will sound good with your car. don't let someone tell you that it won't sound good. I have installed, 80 series flowmaster, ravin, spintech mufflers, XLerator mufflers, and Magnaflow on 3.8 camaros and firebirds. I took everyone of those cars out for test drives when i was finished and ravin sounded and i could feel more power with that muffler.

It looks like you are trying to ''scold'' somebody too. It's not working though.
Anyway, I recommended RAVIN in my first post here. But I forgot that you can't seem to read very well. Yes ravin mufflers are awsome.
But I think you need that award more than I do. Your first comment about a tip putting too much backpressure when it is the same size as the rest of the tubing was actually quite funny to me. As I said before I agree about the tone of the exhaust, but you were talking about backpressure and I was like WTF?

I went with the ravin and its sounds good. Actually i pulled up to some civic the other day cuz i wanted to race and he said he doesnt want any part of a v8. I know it doesnt sound like a v8 but to the untrained ear it sounds pretty good

Looks like PWMAN is a little self-conceded......
actually i'm not, you tried telling me i should be fired and said how i was a moron, complete idiot. Sorry PWMAN, you broken the first rule in the user guidlines by saying that. Those were complete insults. Trust me PWMAN, tips do matter when it comes to exhaust, we tested 2.5 against 3.5 and there was a torque change. It Depended on how long the tip was also. The dyno results showed less torque with regular 2.5 exhaust exit than against a 3.5in added tip. Oh incase you are wondering what vehical we dynoed, it was a 1997 Camaro 3.8

Well, after looking through this thread, If you ask me, it looks like 99'Z-28 knows what he is talking about when it comes to exhaust. I know a little myself, but seems to me if i were to trust anyone on this matter it would be 99'Z-28. He did make a mistake with the LSD, but everyone makes that mistake, nothing agianst ya Z-28. PWMAN seems to be agreeing with 99' Z-28, but PWMAN looks to be trying to sound better at it. I don't think he is sounding better than Z-28 just my :2cents: I did think that PWMAN telling 99' Z-28 that he is a moron and should be fired is way out of line.

99' Z-28 said-->Tips are what give style and dictate mostly how the exhaust tone will be. What he is saying here is that the tip SIZE can deepen the tone out even MORE than the muffler itself. flyguy86 went with 3.5in tips. Yes it will sound pretty deep and look good.

Yes i know what i am talking about, looks like flyguy86 went with the 3.5 not the dinky 2.5 you suggested. PWMAN, you must not have ever heard a 3.8 Firebird with the 2.5in have you? You didn't know what you were talking about.

Yep, didn't i say go with that size at the start of this? I am an exhaust guy and i know these things. I have been around exhaust all my life and i think by now i know what will look and sound right. Yes flyguy says they look good, i knew they would. Better than 2.5 or 3. :iceslolan

So you are saying that a tip will dictate more how the exhaust tone will be than a muffler will?
You see PWMAN, its the car engine that has the distinct tone. A V-6 will always sound like a V-6 no matter what kind of muffler you put on. The muffler can deepen the tone of it, but having a larger tip will deepen the tone out even more. So i bet flyguy's firebird has a nice deep tone to it.

flyguy what did you do exactly? i'm looking into some exhaust action and i need more details. Did you feel the change in power or is it just more noisy? I don't really care about sound, i care about performance.

Even more in addition to the muffler? The way you worded it before sounded like you meant a tip will determine the tone MORE than a muffler will.
For example, if you put a 3.5'' tip on a stock muffler, it's not going to do a whole lot. Some, but not a lot. Just changing the muffler and keeping it with no tips will make more of a difference than just adding tips to stock exhaust. See my point?

Yeah i see your point. But hey, i'm tired of this, i don't want to start flamming. I'm glad to see flyguy happy with his exhaust and thats all that matters. So i'm done in this thread unless he wants to know something else that i might be able to answer.

First i have the m5 and my car only has 41,000 miles on it. I have a CAI with a KN airfilter. I got rid of the Ravin muffler cuz it was rusting badly and i put in a flowmaster 80 series with 3 inch tips. Flowmaster sounds better to me too. What year is the gt. Just make sure you have a good launch and u should be fine it will be close though. goodluck

5.10 Gears and slicks then challenge him to an 1/8th mile race.
Before I race I always throw in some octane boost, not sure if it does anything but its nice. Lower the tire pressure in back and fill the front tires to max. Experiment with tire pressure because driving will heat up the tires and they will expand so be ready to deflate them a bit before the race. Maybe with a new car you might need to drive around until the PCM changes the timing for it.
If you have a front sway bar, remove it for the race. 1/4 tank of gas, empty the trunk or anything. Remove front shock brushings so that the front will rise easier allowing for better weight transfer.
Take off your alternator belt, air conditioner belt for the runs.
Gears will make a large difference, I think 3.73's would be pretty nice for your car, just be sure to know that changing a cars gearing effects its entire range of power. Going to 3.73's will reduce gas milage, and at the same speeds as before your engine will be revving higher, and your top end will drop (sometimes quite drastically).
As for your exhaust:
Horsepower Single Exhaust Pipe Diameter Dual Exhaust Pipe Diameter
200-300 3" 2 1/4"
300-400 3 1/2" 2 1/2"
375-450 4" 3"
450-550 4 1/2" 3 1/2"
550-650 5" 3 1/2"
650-800 - 4"
800-1000 - 4 1/2"
1000 plus - 5"
A good launch is the best, because in the first 330ft. of a race you spend 40% of your time.

He has a 2001 GT (260hp/302torque) so i think i will need more than just a CAI and an exhaust sytem. I am not making this changes to my car just so I can beat him. I was already planing on making some mods to my car before that(I've been saving money for a few months already). But anyway. I have a question. SSRA SuperSucker Ram Air Kit, exhaust system (mine has dual exhaust, i though i would mention that in case that helps), torque converter, LSD, and 3.42 gears. Would that be enough to beat a stang GT (1999 and up)? how much horsepower would that put on my car?
Thanks beforehand for any help.

Well personally I beleive those cold air intakes to be a waste of time and money on newer cars and would concentrate first on tranny and gears as that is where you will notice the most improvement for the least amount of money spent.
I would buy those parts in this order:
1) Torque Convertor, mine in a 1968 V8 stalls to 2500, but I'm not sure what will work best in a newer V6, talk to a real mechanic about that, not some parts dealer who also has a sticker bin.
2) Read Gears and LSD. 3.42 or 3.73's would be good. 4.10's if you don't mind a pretty high revving highway experiance.
3) Full length Headers into mandrel bent exhaust (2.25-2.5"), good performance mufflers.
4) Chip reprogramming & New Camshaft.
5) Misc. cheap helpers: Windage Tray ($25 for my car, no clue about yours), manual exhaust cut-outs. Remove Air silencer.
The first two will help the most in a 1/4 mile race, the second will help but not as noticable.
Make sure your car is as light as possible, take out your spare, and any other weight adder (Sub Box etc.). Every 100lbs is 1/10 in the quarter mile or roughly 10hp gain. Easier to lose weight then gain power. (Remember to take out the jack too).
Race with 1/4 tank of gas
Practice your holeshot in a deserted parking lot somewhere. - Light Burn out to clean tires and 0-60ft. time. You'll probably need a friend willing to time you, as well as a tape measure roughly. A good start is essential as your 0-60ft. is 15% of the entire race time. Try not to spin too much as the more you spin the less traction you get.
Shift through the gears of your auto manually if possible.
Lower the rear tire pressure and monitor it after a burn out. Notice the difference, remember your rear tires will expand as the air heats up. I'd drop them in increments of 2psi until you find the best contact patch thats still drivable, and fill the front tires to their max. This lessens rolling resistance up front and allows a larger tire patch in back. Unless they are drag radials the max psi I would lower the rear tires would be 8psi under minumum rating.
If you have aftermarket rims and tires they can be quite heavier than the stock ones so puting the stock rims and tires on the front can help some weight.
Look at your start and that the tread marks are evenly dark all the way across. If they are darker to the outside you need to increase pressure.
Take off your front sway bar. Driving will be weird but it'll help lighten your car a little as well as better weight transfer.
Hope this helps.

I almost forgot, do a full oil change, it probably doens't help but will help your engine in the long run anyway.
1) Buy 2 New Oil Filters (NOT A FRAM*) and new light oil, 5w 30 is nice and an equal amount of transmission fluid.
2) Mark your odometer on it so you know when to change the oil next
3) Drain Oil Completly
4) Put filter #1 on (this could be a Fram for all I care)
5) Fill up with Tranny Fluid and run the engine for about 20 minutes. This should clean up the engine inside nicely.
6) Drain Tranny Fluid out, remove wasted filter.
7) Put #2 filter on (I stress not a Fram)
8) Fill up with nice light 5w30 Oil (Synthetic of course).
That might help a tiny bit with parasite power at least, as well you'll be happy that your car has nice new oil in it.
*The reason not to use a Fram is they are badly made with a lot more paper and cardboard then the other brands. I would suggest using the correct NAPA filter for your car.
If you have any questions you want me to answer just send an e-mail to [email protected] (Quicker response) or post here.

 I have a 85 firebird, It has a 342 posi rear, 8.8 wires, apc cone filter,5.0 mustang coil, removed ac unit condenser and all, syth trans fluid. I WAS a member of another forum but i got tired of misinformed people and tired of he arguements, Even the mods on this other site were noodles. So here i am :smokin: This is an old pic of my car at englishtown raceway. Since then i removed the bra, fixed two dents and added a white plastic strip to the top of the windsheild

I always like the way the 80's ''chickens'' looked. LOL
So with all those mods, what do you run in the 1/4?
This site is pretty good, although there is the occasional moron. Most people know what they're talking about.

So far ive put 3000 miles on the car, ive only had it for 4 months, ive never ran it yet. When i was at englishtown it was a corvette show/race so i couldnt run and i dont get much time to go to atco. Hopefully i will soon. :bananasmi

I know what the 80's v6 size was. I was just asking what kind of car he drove because he was makeing a stupid comment about the backing into the mustang to beat him.
