Im helping my friend build his MR2 SW20, we just sprayed the car Mica Red today and it came out very good. And we also sprayed the chassis silver leaf, but it looks very much close to chrome. I also made a custom front and rear end of the car, I cut the front and rear grill off to make it have a more agressive look to it, and also for the intercooler to show and so i have more room to put in some custom HKS exhausts. Tell me whut u guys think so far. Thanx

looks nice :) one problem i have with mr2's is there ferrari wannabe-ness. gonna do any modifications? hehe sorry. did that kit come with an engine?
ShOrtyOC714

The modifications i did was make the custom front and rear end of the car. If u look closely u can see i did some modifications to the front and rear body kit. And the kit doesnt come with a motor its a curbside kit.

ah i read that bit.. just was wondering if there was anything else. oh well i'm sure i'll see the final pics

not to kill your buzz, but the mr2 is a mid-engine car which means putting an intercooler in the front would require piping through the cabin and finally into the engine. i have never seen a fmic on an mr2 that's not to say that there's none into existance... just that i've never seen one. then again, it may just be my ignorance into the inner workings of an mr2.

Well i didnt do it, Fujimi molded the chassis like that. And the intercooler was in front.

i think that's the radiator. i believe the stock intercooler on the mr2's are in the vent on the passenger side. it would require quite a bit of piping for the intercooler (front mount) to reach the engine. i'm not to say that no one has ever done it before but it would require alot of work and planning. but anyway...
the color looks cool shorty! i've always loved mr2's and look forward to the end result :D . i'm tempted to do mine as well

lol i didn't even realize that... me being the engine kinda guy i am.. lol.. what would that be? SMIC? and what side would it be on?? ehhhh

06-13-2003, 12:41 AM
He's right shorty, it would be rather odd to have a intercooler in the front of an MR2, but you could always put some nice mesh grill to fill it in.
ShOrtyOC714
06-13-2003, 12:54 AM
When i was building the chassis i was wondering that too, that would be to much piping for it to be front mounted so it would really be side mounted intercooler SMIC.

it is a fun car to build I jsut finished mine and there are pics here down the board. If you want I noticed after I painted it that there is alot of room for an easy body kit. POST PICS WHEN DONE!

Yeah i know he wont...considering its my car. I was thinking of scratch-building an intercooler myself, mount it in the front. I think I'll also make sum tubing go through the cabin to the rear. I was also thinking of scratch-building a body kit, the kind like on my avatar and signature, since my car is stil pretty high even though i cut the suspension. I'll post pics once i get my hands on a digi cam.

If I was you, Id get the 180sx body kit from SAS.. The front is identical. Good luck

On second thought, i wont because i have already glued in all the lights. All i really want to do to the front bumper is add a lip.

Took the words out of my mouth, I have never seen a front mount on the MR2 and I don't think they exist to be honest, I have seen the standard side mount which is ok and looks cool through the side vents. If you want to really go trick but realistic you should put the intercooler in the trunk, this is an actual kit available for 1:1 MR2s and it looked SICK when I saw pics of the real setup!!! I wish I had pics to show but is has been two years since I saw any and I can't remember where they were. Just check MR2 sites and forums and you will see something for SURE! if I am correct there is a hood scoop that directs the air directly into the trunk for massive cooling. I don't really think you could run an effect level of PSI on a front mount due to the long way air has to travel both ways, of course this is irellevant when dealing with models.

For some sort of interclooling you gotta put those ugly vents on the roof in. Theres no way you could have enough room in an MR2 to front mount an intercooler and run the piping through the car. Plus it would look gay.
Why does the intercooling on an MR2 look crap??:eek7:

Just my 2 cents...
There is no way to have a front mounted intercooler on the mr2 for two main reasons:
1.The piping should go through the cabin and back to the engine...
2.The most important, the turbo lag was going to be out of this world...
The above 2 simple facts make the whole FMIC thing not possible for sure...
P.s:THe trick thing that you can do and it will add a lot to the car is to put the oil cooler under the rear bumper in order to be fully visible(I wouldn't do it to my car but it looks trick)...ANother thing is the exhaust...I think you can create an awesome exhaust system with great piping(HKS one i think is top notch)...

yes i agree it's not normal to have a FMIC on a MR2 .. but having said that i remember seeing a MR2 with FMIC in japan.. there are 2 huge pipes inside the car !!!
MR-2RaCeR
07-11-2003, 10:46 AM
Yeah, i agree with you guys, but i'll fm it anyways to see how it looks. Maybe i'll just direct the two pipes to the passenger side of the car? I'll try out the tips you guys gave me. Thanx for the feedback. Very much appreciated.

BTW, almost done. I had to glue the wheels to the suspension because they werent the original stock rims, and they didnt fit right. The car is lowered, and the wheels fit right into the arches on the wheelwells. Now all i gotta do is my exhaust, intercooler, and body kit...

I just bought some aluminum tubing today, one of them is a 9/32 and the other is a 7/32. They look pretty good, not to small not to big. I'll cut these and make my own custom HKS exhaust, oh yeah i also gotta buy some putty to stick it in...

i love black rims most of my cars have ither black or gunmetal color sytle rims. i think the black rims give the car a mean "drifter" type of look as those cars in japan.. i think a c\f hood and some back side mirrors and a black torung tail might go nice.. just idears tho..

Looks good so far. I like the wheels; which tires are those?
Also, I recommend putting a divider made of cardstock or styrene sheet on the back of the interior tub to block the view in one side vent and out the other... I made a shape like this...
