Gas gage problem

mmkay...ok this is the prob...when i have the ignition on it shows how mutch gas i have but when i turn it on (the car) it gos up to full.But the thing is it isent ...and to get it down again i have to open up the gages and pull it down..... it was ok when i bought the car. It started acting up a week ago. any ideas:confused:

Anyone?......its a dumb problem but i need help...its hard to drive around not knowing how long u have to drive....id think the answer im gone get is buy a new one or get it from a junkyard am i right or what?...but id like to fix it...if possible:iceslolan

it might not be the gauge itself, but the sender unit from the tank..

but why dosent it show full with the ignition on?...it only shows full then i acutally turn the engine on and get the engine up to about 3000rpm i know when it was ok and i made it up to 6000rpm (110km/h) the gage showed that the tank was empty but when i stoped the gage when´t back to normal.

Could be a loose wire in there somewhere.

i'm having practicly the same prob...

when in my garage my the needle goes to were ever it should "well at least i think" then when the car starts moving the needle starts going down but in a weird whay , it's like it's falling on steps...

And when ever i fill her up more then half the tank the needle goes below empty and as i burn the gaz it works its whay back up...
