01 Windstar 2nd opinion

So I'll go through what happen.

I had rich/lean codes on bank 1/2 so I changed out the intake gaskets to try and fix the problem but I think I created more. Didn't have a torque wrench so I had to barrow one (mistake #1). The wrench I used was not the normal wrench. One of the ones that clicks when its to your torque setting. I've never liked using those kind but did anyways since I wanted to do it right.

So before I start I test the wrench to make sure its working right, set it and put it on my lug nuts and seemed to work fine. So I start to torque them down. So the wrench didn't work right and had 1 bolt snap and another make an even worse sound. Anyways after that happen I quit going any tighter since I didn't want to snap every bolt. But now the problem the little driving I did I have lost almost all of my oil, and have a few more error codes now and still have one of the same codes. P0171 lean/rich bank 1, bank 2 code is gone so I think the intake gaskets were bad, but created more problems since I think the worse sound that happen first cracked the head. Can be the only thing I can think of why I have lost so much oil. Just wanting to get some opinions on this. I'll post the other error codes up when everyone wakes up.

I would re-do the intake gasket job.
Is this the upper intake manifold gaskets or lower intake manifold gaskets?
Since you mentioned "head" I am taking it to mean lower.
I broke 1 bolt when doing mine......the very same way "clicker" torque wrench.
Lesson learned, the "clicker" style is great for higher torque values, but not so much for low torque values.
With just 1 bolt broken......I had serious leaks of coolant and the vehicle was not drivable in that condition.
As soon as it warmed up and built up pressure in the cooling system, I had leakage of coolant.
You will need to re-do the whole job, using NEW lower intake manifold gaskets.
ALL lower intake manifold bolts are required.
Use a 'beam' style torque wrench. Do NOT confuse INCH pounds with FOOT pounds......you need the IN pound style torque wrench.

When doing the lower intake manifold gasket job, it is a MUST to replace the engine oil and filter.
Also, the lower intake manifold gaskets are NOT re-usable.

Yea I already took the old ones off and went and got them replaced. Auto zone replaced them since I said they were defective. Since then I did break a total of 5 bolts. Got them all out just waiting for better weather to get out there and get it done also bought a new torque wrench. 20-200inlbs so I should be good.

The only problem I have right now is when I was removing one of the broke bolts it fell into the engine sounded like it hit the oil pan and from the diagram I got looks to be correct. This crap weather is holding me back right now.

You could just drain the Engine Oil and then tap the Oil Pan with a rubber mallet and hear for the broken bolt rattling in there. That would tell you for sure the broken bolt is in there!

Who knows if it is actually in the Oil Pan, you might get lucky and tap it out the drain hole with the mallet!

Yea the oil is pretty much gone anyways so I prolly Won't need to drain any. But I got the intake back together just need to change the oil and get that out. Hopefully I can try this magnet to see if it will pick it up after i drain the oil.

I was just thinking if you could somehow drag it to the drain bolt hole with the magnet. What a major win that would be if you pulled that off!

small magnet epoxey it to end of coat hanger and into oil drain hole and drag along bottom you can bend hanger to go all over bottom of oil pan

Well I ended up having to pull the whole pan off anyways to fix any leaks. But I did get the bolt out and the oil pan back on.
