short shifter

Ok I tried to install my short shifter. One of the nuts won't come off, it just sits at the end of the bolt and spins. What is wrong with it? Is it stripped. I am scared to yank it off because how would I replace the bolt if it messes it up.

dude there are 4 bolts theat secure the shifter to the body
2 of them keep the linkage on the body and the other 2 hold the shifter in its housing.

i had to cut the 2 that hold the shifter in its housing cause they were so rusted, however i would not cut the ones that hoold the entire linkage to the car,

the smaller 2 can be replaced however

Which one dude?? Details & pics help!!!!

:useless:

HA ! I have been wanting to use that smilie!!

Now - with that said..I assume you are talking about the square headed bolts that hold the shifter into the hole in the car. You need a second person to hold them with a set of vice grips or something...that is the stupidest design I have ever seen. Then replace them with some regular bolts when you reassemble.

Edit- oh some dude beat me to it...yeah..what he said

I think I know the answer to this but. What short shifter do I need for my 91 hatch w/ a GSR swap?? Will a 94-00 stock GSR shifter work?? Is the skunk2 short shifter worth it??

they're all the same, as far as mounting. some people seem to have trouble with the generic ebay ones breaking, but i've never heard of anything like that personally.

Actually, i've found that Ractive ones are pretty good, they ahve a ball bearing bushing for the bottom, instead of an open metal hole. Hurst are good too. My buddies normally make their own with the stock shifter, if you're handy with a welder, you can make your own too. what you do is cut the shifter off *BELOW* the pivot point, weld a piece of steel in there to extend it down, and weld the bottom part back on. Its not the shortness of the stick, its the longness of the lower pivot part that makes it an actual short throw.

with yoru talking about the 2 bolts that are screwed into the back rubber or your taking about the 2 nuts taht are screwed onto the stud infront and inback of the shifter. if your talking about those 2 nuts, what u might have to do is get like a vice grip or something to hold the top so you can unscrew the nuts, because hte top of those studs, like goes into a square hole, so it kind like holds it in place but they dont really stay in there so thats why u gotta hold it witha vice grip or something. other than that, if your talking about the 2 bolts in the back that go through the rubber, that should be hard to get out. that should be it for getting the shifter out
