2002 Ford Windstar LX Door Locks Not working

Well, I have yet to determine if I have a 2002 or a 2003 Windstar. Just bought.

Anyway, this Windstar has a lift gate and it looks like a lot of work was done in the rear side walls etc..

On my 95 Windstar there is a rear door lock... and all locks are automated with the buttons on the doors in front and one in the rear.

On this 2002/2003 - I see no door lock button/steam (whatever you wanna call it) in the rear hatch, but I can't imagine since the 95 had one that they would've done away with it in future versions.

Here's the problem. All door locks aren't functioning except the driver door and there is only 1 key hole at the driver door. This of course makes things a lil difficult getting in and out of the van.

Are all the door locks on an electrical circuit looped? I was wondering if during the lift gate installation they may have cut off the wire that unlocks the rest of the doors. Where would I check for this wire? or what do ya'll think could be the cause?

Do you have an owners manual for this vehicle? You can look at an online owners manual at fordparts.com

Click on the pro center, then click technical resources. When that link comes up, in the left column, click owners guides. It will ask for year and model. You can check out 02 and 03. Check out door lock operations.

I haven't looked at your wiring, yet.

Just to add, do you have childproof door locks?

well, in second gen windstar the door locks, are separated, the driver lock is individually from the others, otherwise, when you press the button on driver or passenger side, ALL the locks should work at the same time.

I supose that ford removed the rear lock button because of the Keyless entry system, because if you can close all locks with a remote control you shouldn't need the button in the rear, weel i supose that.

Also the rutinary question, have you checked all interior fuses? fuses in modern windstars are a little strange, in mine i has a blown fuse and the rear interior lights wasn't working, but the front interior lights were working, but that's only a supose.

Also if all are OK, you could check with a test lamp or a multimeter, if the servos are getting voltage, the easiest way to verify is the passenger door, it has two screws on the handle (8mm) one in the mirror plastic cover (8mm) and if i remember only that, but you have to remove the dorr handle cover with a flat scredriver, and the electric controls too (window and lock) you remove it with a flat screwdriver too, then you disconect it, and VUALA now you could check all inside, in the rear of the door, you will see two electrical conectors, you remove the white one and connect the test lamp, or the voltmeter, then, you press the lock button on driver or passenger side (if you reconected the passenger side controls) and test it, it should turn on the lamp or shouw 12 v +- in the voltmeter.

if you dont have voltaje there you have a broken cable, but it should be a problem to find it,

but i dont think that, i think that all your lock servos are not working, at least in my windstar only work the servos of the rear sliding door (it only has one) and the rear door, the passenger and driver locks doesnt work, just make light sounds

Greetings, and sorry for the bad english,

Upon closer inspection, the issue is a bit odd.

All the door locks are working except the front passenger door.

However, none of the locks except the driver front door, remain in the "unlocked" position after you use any unlock button (whether remote or on the doors). If I HOLD the unlock button on the driver DOOR, the door locks remain in the unlocked position such that you can unlock the slider doors and the hatch. If I let go of the unlock button the doors either seem to lock right away back into locked position or are just falling down into their holes due to gravity.

If I push the unlock buttons several times, I get the doors unlocked. I've tried oiling them and that didn't help much.

Why would the locks recoil back into "locked" position after I tried to unlock them? An old spring or regulator no more good enough to hold the locks up into unlocked position?

Well, something is odd with this van. Now the driver door auto-lock stopped working and coincidentally this happens right after I brought it to the shop and asked them to look at the door lock on the passenger front side.

So now I have both front doors not working with the auto-locking/unlocking. I can of course use the key, but you know... Guess I gotta get two new actuators huh?

same behavior with the button on the door vs. the remote or different? Try both switches (drivers and passenger door)

Switches can get dirty and cause weird issues. You could try bypassing the master switch and see if everything works as it should. If it does you can try disassembling and cleaning the master switch to see if it fixes it.

Have you noticed any water intrusion on the doors or the rear right window? The REM (rear electronics module) is located by the fuel intertia switch and water intrusion has been reported a few times.
