Hi...Slightly over a year ago my mom's Chevy Impala, 47,000 original miles, was the recipient of an "onboard computer"...Lights on dash were blinking and odd noises.. We were told it was the computer, which we had replaced...The care has been parked under the garage and driven less than 50 miles since the replacementof the computer. When I tried to start it a few days ago...guess what!?...Wouldn't start and with the same symptoms...dash lights blinking and making noiss and car won't turn over.. The dealership said that the warrenty had just expired but to bring it back in...I'm not in the best of moods to be buying another expensive computer when theres no reason for tht one to have petered out without any use being put on the car...Is there any way that "I" can check it or could it be something else?. I"d appreciate ny advice...Thanks...Pete

Well the BCM has lost the programming. Here's how to fit it and will not cost you a dime. BCM= Body Control Module and it controls all right up to the power windows.
Make sure the battery is charged fully.
1. All accessories are OFF
2. Turn the key on and OFF and REMOVE it from the ignition switch.
3. Put the key back in and turn to the run position. DO NOT TRY AND START THE CAR!!!
4. Leave the key ON for 30 mins.
5. Turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.
6. Put the key back in and start the car.
Your Impala should start normally and run like nothing happened. An easy fix and takes 30 minutes!
Keep me in the loop!

Hey John. Thanks for the reply...That sounds exactly what my problem is... But first I'm gonna hook up the battery ( it is still under warranty) and put what I would assume is a full charge...Then I will take it and let them test it to be sure..I'll try the procedure you instructed and I'll let you know. It would be great if that's all the problem is...I appreciate you helping me...Pete

Question: How does a BCM lose it programming?
And how does that procedure install programming?

Glad your car is running......
Seems and old man with some knowledge of his Impala can help another.
The BCM loses programming.....can't explain it but it affects all GM cars with a BCM. I had an ex-G/F who had a Grand AM do the same thing. Die hard enthusiasts will say I am full of it.....others agree.
But hey it worked and that's all that matters. I am glad to have helped you. What's wrong with your 95 Nissan PU? I had a 96 at one time. Best little truck I ever had.
