2001 saturn sl1 with 72,000 miles on it was hard shifting into reverse and then into gears once i got it going. i have taken it to three different transmission shops, (not aamco) i am being told bad valve body. keep getting a incorrect gear 3 ration code/ ordered a new once with the sonnax update from ebay (170.000 installed it today - it went pretty straight forward just took out the old one threw in the new one tightened it down, no particular order but did not over tighten the bolts and i am still having the same hard shift into reverse
(still has a little hesitation into reverse) still does the same hard shift and slow shift once i take it out on the road, what am i doing wrong,. only thing is now there is no codes showing once i use my scan tool. Also was looking online about checking the fuse all of the fuses in the engine are good.:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Sometimes the PCM needs time to relearn the shift points.

What is needed to get the computer to relearn the shift patterns then, I drove it through my neighborhood not hard at all, just real gentle driving cond. hoping this would allow it to relearn.

I have seen several s series with a delay and harsh reverse engagement. If it is not the valve body I would bet it has a loose input shaft end nut. The nut is located behind the transmission side cover. It holds The 2nd reverse clutch on. When the nut comes loose the clutch slides out on the shaft allowing apply fluid to leak past the seals. It could be tricky to tighten a new nut down without the special tool designed to hold the clutch and input shaft from turning.
