Aoshima Aventador

Time to start a new project!
Held off on the fujimi kit for a while since I heard aoshima was making one, so I snapped this up as soon as I could.
First impressions of the box contents.. this is a big kit!

I plan to do this in matte black with gloss black wheels.

Started building the body, many of the body panels are separate pieces and requires quite a bit of careful aligning to get them to sit with equal panel gaps. So far in the photos below, there is 18 parts assembled already!

I've been looking forward to seeing some WIP threads about this kit for days. Hope to see your progress soon.

Kit is going together smoothly, with the exception of the PE parts that come in the upgrade set. These are designed to be attached the the clear parts that u would stick the decals on in the standard kit. But I wanted them open without the clear plastic behind.. fitment of these is poor like this..
But otherwise parts fit is great as you would expect from a modern kit. Aoshima has cast some very thin plastic for the body panels that have exposed edges.

Looks good, imaging how it'll look like after finished.

This car looks as if it was sorry it has wheels. I'm sure ur build will make it look insane.

Andy, the thin parts are the door skins, engine cover and spoiler. These are 0.5mm thick, never seen large plastic parts cast this thin before. Should look good when these parts are open.
Progress..
I assembled the boot lid and adjusted it all so it closes flush with the body as seen below. This step is very fiddly with wet glue on 2 little arms while trying to force the arms into their proper groove, then trying to carefully lower the hood down and align it with the body. There really isn't much tolerance in these parts and if you glue the arms at the wrong angle the hood would either sit low or high when closed!
And its actually not closing properly now after I added the black paint :( I guess I'll have to mess with it some more.

Any ideas for interior colors? At the moment I'm thinking black, not sure if I should do the red highlights or not....

Dark red and gunmetal/carbon fiber interior. Black and tan is always a good interior combo for just about any color car.

look up some pics of the F117 Stealth Fighter cockpit and mimic that.

some more progress on the engine area, the supports aoshima supplies are just straight pieces of metal. I thought I would soon lose these if i used them as the kit would have u (just sit in place - loose) So I drilled some holes and bent the end of them, so they are a bit harder to lose

Also the engine is finished for me, I was going to wire it but couldnt find a single picture online that clearly shows where the spark plugs wire to a coilpack or distributor! Besides, you can't even see this once the engine is built and in the car.

The engine compartment with those PE parts looks very impresive.

What did you use to tint the windows?
I am going to buy some real tint @35% for my Cali I think.

yeah it's tint for 1:1 cars, just one called "light" tint from ebay, I'm glad i didn't go for the dark as this is already very dark! haha.
It's actually a pretty thick film and doesn't like conforming, lucky the windows are basically flat on this car :D

made some progress on the interior, still have to do detail painting on the center console, add seatbelts, and steering wheel..
Photos show a blueish colour, but in reality it is black with dark grey

that looks simply amazing in kit form. great job so far

haven't bought a new kit for a while now but this one is looking quite good.
engine is not bad looking at all with pretty nice looking cam covers.

time to browse the online stores again I think.

Agreed! Your doing an amazing job with the kit & the detailing too!
Only thing I dont like about the Aoshima kit is the rear lights, much too red, Fujimis look more realistic.

Are the floor mats really gray like that?

thanks for the comments, BVC500 yep the floor mats are that colour, I wish they were black but too bad I guess. They seem to just be stamped cardboard haha

Weird - you would think they would have been black.

You might be able to paint them black, if its stamped cardboard you might be able to lightly airbrush it black & there would hopefully be a sutble difference between the logo & matt. But I guess its a 'hope & see' kinda idea...

^ will be interesting to see if anyone tries it, but it won't be me :D
