I meant after you changed the ignition switch does the engine light still need to be on for you to start the car or did that go away after you swapped it out. I notice now that when I am trying the engine light will turn off then turn back on after a while.
When I start the car now, the engine light always goes on and it starts right up..So I suppose it does need to go on, then it goes off as it is supposed to. Car is running great so far!
This is what they have on my receipt: Installed 22737173 :SL-N-Switch (02188-OPC22737 1@ 151.86. Not sure if there is a part number in there. Hope that helps. They also replaced my battery.

Just got back from the auto shop... They charged me 250 which isn't too bad since I got an OEM part. Crossing my fingers hoping that fixes it...

Not true. The Article said that the switch would turn the car off and that 13 people died because the switch shutting off at the time before impact caused the failure of the air bags to deploy.
It's a faulty switch
The switch turning off to accessory was exactly what the code read on my grand am. GM hasn't mentioned the 2005 Grand AM yet..but they will!

They are saying that the amount of drag on the ignition switch was not sufficient to make sure it stayed in the on position. If people had a bunch of crap hanging on their key ring, the weight of it could cause the whole assembly to turn to the accessory position.

Then why are they recalling them? I had the exact problem with only 2 keys on my keychain, but anyway, the Grand Am isn't listed.

Is your key turning to accessory or off when it dies? I don't think so.....

It was turning to accessory which shut it off. All is well now (so far) with the GM switch they put in

After replacing the ignition switch I have't had shut off a single time yet after a couple of months. Looks like that corrected my problem.

Awesome! Same here with the recent switch. I'm sure you hear about GM and the huge recall of over a million cars due to faulty ignition switches and Air Bags failing to deploy? Not a mention of the Grand Am yet.
