2000 Windstar starts, then stops

My 2000 Windstar SEL will start perfectly, idle for 6-7 minutes, then choke off. It will restart, but won't run. After a few restarts, it won't start again unless the gas pedal is held to the floor. Then it starts, but chokes down and runs rough before shutting down. A few hours or days, and it will start just as I have described above. When it starts, I can run the air, radio, move it forward and reverse. If I try to drive it, it chokes down and stops.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

You may want to check the fuel pump pressure .Its probably weak and failing.

I was thinking that as well. How long has it been since you changed the fuel filter?

Fuel pressure too, but you might want to try and clean the IAC valve. My failing one can do some funny things when acting up...

IAC is only for idle. Hitting the gas shuts that off so the air passes through the throttle. This is most likely a fuel pressure issue which is why I'd start with the fuel filter.

I know, but mine seems to stick from time to time causing the RPM's to surge after taking off from a stop. That's why I said mine makes funny things, it's very clean tho.
