Fuel pump questions???

my 03 windstar sometimes stalls when accerating and when .cruising at hwy speed. I cannot restart in neutral, I have to coast down to get van stopped, put in park, and restart motor. Always restarts fine and away i go until the next stall. Motor also stutters or jerks for a half second,I back off the gas and seems to save stalling. I just changed a totally blocked fuel filter and pcv. Also feels a little sluggish when trying to kick tranny down for hwy passing., feels like its not getting enough fuel. If its the pump, will that not restart in neutral??. How can I test this out???. Any help would be appreciated as I'm sick of stalling on the hwy. EDIT Roomate just said that it will start in neutral if you re-cycle the ignition while coasting.

I was about to suggest you try reswitching during coasting in neutral ... then I read your last sentence!

Yes, your symptoms fit exactly my experiences with a failing fuel pump! Somehow turning it off and back on, will help get the last bit of life out of it. Go ahead, empty and lower the tank ... replace the pump and sender unit .... about $150 at AutoZone, IIRC .... I've been thru it twice ... and may soon be doing it a third time. My van has 340k miles .... but it is very dependent on the cleanliness of the gasoline you buy.

After you do this, life will be good again!

Dear gregguy (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=699526)
Please check posts by me and all others regarding fuel pump. I had same problem of stalling but not related to acceleration but randomly after driving for more than 200 KM. It was not corrected by changing fuel pump.
