New Tire Time

Hello,

This is more of an opinion thread. My Impala LT has 16k miles on it and is ready for new tires. I am coming off a really noisy set of Bridgestone 019 Grid. They did wear OK, but the road noise was horrible.

Had General Altimax HP on prior. The Goodyear Integrity that came from the factory wore horribly (which I read form so many sources on the Internet).

Any suggestions on the next purchase? Looking to spend about $115 to $125/tire.

Oops, 126,000 miles.....

I have a last gen Lumina LS, it has 225-60-16 I think they are, don't know what size you run but probably similar.

The best I had on it were Bridgestone Potenza RE92's....you can't beat their wet and cornering grip, and they seemed to hold up well to how I drive (I'm known to put a rear wheel in the air in corners)...you can't beat the dual compound rubber that gets stickier the more the tire wears. They were a bit too expensive when I needed replacement, so I went with Yokohama AS430's...good tire for the price, not near as wet grippy but dry cornering was similar, except that they tended to break traction rather abruptly without warning...had to be sure of my threshold...the Potenzas would let you know when you were about to start over- or understeering.

The last set I bought are Kumho KR21's, which I'm convinced are one of the best buys in the market...good wet traction and very long wearing, heavy carcass and sidewall, nice square shouldering and large rain channels. I became aware of them by chance...I blew one of the Yoko's and bought a used KR21 for a replacement...it outlasted the three Yokos that actually had more tread on them when this happened. I was sold, I bought a new set of 4 and love them...even with the sidewall bending antics I put them through, after 2 years they show no appreciable tread wear.

And I think I paid about $85 each at Sears...about 40-50 bucks each less than the others...
