Xp5

Just curious, is this car up to full road car spec? Or does it have any components that have been left out or are different from the production road cars? Does anyone know what the color of XP5 is called or the paint code? I like it very much. Lastly, would you guys say this is the most valuable of all the standard F1 road cars?

Most valuable? Either #001 [the 'first'], #075 [the last] or #065 [the most expensive]

for me the coulour is called "Dark Metallic Green"

It's a good question about the road car. I put a piece on 075 :
- last car built
- first hand
- no modifications
- low mileage less than 10000km

Maybe one day, we will learn why the car was available on spring 2006 at Ferrari Geneve and why it is finally kept.

I would love to see it at the anniversary.

It says in the 'location of F1s in rest of Europe thread' that #075 is in Switzerland. But there are photos of it at McLaren HQ with an MP4-12C in the same color. So does McLaren still own it or was #075 just visiting the HQ? I would really like to see #075 because I think the color would look great in person.

#075 belongs to Mansour Ojjeh - CEO of TAG which according to Wikipedia, own 21% of the McLaren Group. You may recognize his name as one of the four principles who participated in the earliest conversation on the F1 project in an Italian airport lounge in 1988. "Driving Ambition" notes that chassis #075 was originally constructed for his brother, Aziz.

I also believe that XP5 was upgraded at several points throughout its life to remain as close to full production spec as possible. There may be items hiding under its skin that would reveal its prototype origins but there have not been any recent photos of the car that give away whether any of those details might remain.

I think as far as road car values it should be considered at the high end of the spectrum given its history and importance to the F1 story. The fact that it is not for sale makes it priceless really. Certain buyers might find other chassis numbers more appealing either due to condition and originality, place in the build sequence or history of ownership. It really all depends I think.

Was #075 the one that was previously owned by a guy named Dan Kennedy? There is a video on YouTube of him picking it up at the old factory and it appears the car is #075. Isn't #075 customized a bit from the factory with things like navigation, a different stereo head unit etc.?

Lastly, I've noticed a few McLaren F1s have this steering wheel which is different from the usual one. Is this steering wheel just one that is put on later chassis because I noticed #075 and #073 both have it.

No - that is chassis #038. There was some early confusion that circulated about his car being #075 but that was corrected long before he sold it in 2005. You'll find it listed in the American fleet thread - it now belongs to Peter Sachs. The color is similar to #075, but brighter and more metallic it would seem.

Your interior photo there shows chassis #038, not #075. Chassis #075 has a unique steering wheel of its own with a flat bottom section.

I didn't know there were so many variations. The LM/GTR wheel is probably my favorite. Are thee any better photos of the flat rimmed steering wheel from #075?

Wait, I thought M.O. owned but sold 036? I remember the picture of his brother standing with 075 and several members of McLaren staff, but did not realize they were playing 'musical cars' as it were. :cool:

036 is such a beautiful colour ... it didn't make sense why it was sold, until now.

I'd say it still doesn't make a lot of sense because he certainly could afford to own several. Anyway, chassis #036 has a wonderful new caretaker now and we get to see a lot more of it so all is well.

What comes these values; I think each F1 has it's own history behind and that makes alot when the car is on sale.
Specialty GTR/LM/Longtail GTR's this makes a lot.
And what comes XP5; it's one of the most famous F1's, seen many different videos, record things and so on; the value of the car is not so easy to said.
