Few days ago if the temperature slider was anywhere other than about midcool setting it would make noise. Lately that problem has gone away and now i have no heat. The AC still works.

The MOST likey cause of this problem, from your description (noise), the "BLEND" door is jammed.
When you move the temperature select, it causes a motor to drive a gear on the end of a shaft that connects to a door....which moves to determine how much air moves over the HOT heater core.
The Heater core always has coolant flowing through it when the motor is running, so it stays HOT all the time.
The COLD setting causes the door to direct ALL the air so that it bypasses the heater core.
The HOT setting causes the door to direct ALL the air so that it passes over the heater core.
Settings in between COLD and HOT determine what blend of the 2 you get.
I have not had to mess with this part, but there are a number of posts on here in which folks have shared how the repaired this problem.
From the fact that you are hearing a noise, I'm guessing the the gear on the motor is grinding on the gear on the door.

If you could hear a ticking or clicking noise when the problem first started, you could be in luck (so to speak). The problem could be the blend door motor. I would check that first. Do a search here for blend door motor for instructions on how to remove and open them. In my case, the plastic gears inside broke. I pulled another one from the junkyard and that fixed it.
Another possibility is what Wiswind said, the problem is at the blend door. That's more work. Good luck.
