Goofed somewhere!

2005 Impala.

Took the air cleaner assy apart to check the filter
Car ran fine before. Acceleration and good speed. I took the rubber boot assy off the intake horn and the box to allow me to remove the filter. The filter was checked and re-installed the same way it came out. Reassembled the box. Then re-installed the boot assy and tightened the clamps. Car started and ran fine. Now, as I try to give it gas, it has no acceleration and no speed. Car is driveable. what did I do wrong? Tranny shifts hard. Check engine light came on. Noted the gas cap was worn out and that was just replaced. I got the cap at a junk yard and the guy there told me to reset the computer by taking off the negative battery terminal. I am hoping that the codes wil clear and the light will go off and stay off and my power will resume.

You can't clear a code on an OBDII car by disconnecting the battery(that worked on an OBDI vehicle)....need to get the code read....places like autozone will read and clear it for you....

Did you disconnect the MAF or IAT?

Do u have harsh garage shifts as well? Park to drive or park to reverse. Sounds like you may have disconnected the trans connector which would cause hard shifts due to the pc solenoid defaulting to max line pressure as well as the trans would default to 2nd or 3rd gear.don't remember which gear is default but would explain lack of accel. Inspect the harness to the trans for chaffed or broken wires also.

Pardon my ignorance, what is the MAF AND IAT? Please describe.

If it is in the air cleaner assy, Those connections are solid.

I just removed the assy nothing with the tranny.

Drove good until I took a look at the air cleaner. Thanks for the input.

MAF- Mass air flow. How much air is drawn into the engine. IAT- Intake air temperature.temp of air going into engine. I seen you didnt do anything with the trans but if there is a loose terminal within the trans coonector and u inadvertently moved the harness the terminal may have lost contact. Let us know what the codes are. I am curious as to what happened.

UPDATE!!!!

My stupidity.

I figured that I would disconnect and check all the connectors in that entire assy.

When I reassembled the rubber boot to the throttle body I pinched and chafed the wire heading to the the throttle body sensor. Full shorted purple wire.

Disconnected the connector and inspected the wiring. saw it was pinched and skinned. Taped the wiring and left it disconnected until the assy was fully reinstalled. As always I disconnect the battery anyway. tightened it all up and reconnected all the connectors. Connected the battery and started the car.

Check engine light came on and then went out. Noted the engine start was stronger. Took it up the road and it accelerated perfectly and all shift points were restored. Gee I felt like a real :jerking: off. Go figure.
