Ignition code?

Going to install another Ignition switch with keylock cylinder and key in my 2000 Impala. Will i need to visit my Chevrolet dealer to use a code of some sort to make it work?

go to a lock smith first to resolve your issue. much cheaper and great knowledge about this.

Removed trim on dash and removed Ignition Switch/ Cylinder then unplugged everything and plugged it all back in. Drove around for about a week. No problems. I intalled all back in the dash again. Tightened the two bolts holding the Ignition in place. So far all is working as it should.

what was the issue with your igntion switch ? was this a key cylinder issue ?
you disassembled and re-installed the same parts ?

I didn't actually disasemble the Cylinder itself, but i did notice that 1 or both of the ignition mounting bolts were loose. The problem i had was that after i started the car, the heater fan would not work, the de-fogger switch and the electronic readout of the temperature, compass etc, overhead wouldn't work until i struck the key. Didn't install any new parts, or any other second-hand parts.

if the ignition SWITCH WAS loose then this would explain what occured..
