Where is it located, and what are the symptoms of if going out? A friend of mine just started leaking all of his coolant fluids right under the crank pulley and he's getting a horrible noise from his engine. Kinda sounds like bearings or something. Any help would be appreciated.

yup..it is between the crank pulley and the cam pulley, inside the timing belt cover...it is driven by the timing belt...tell him to be real careful...when the coolant all leaks out, the gauge actually goes to COLD because it can't read the air temp in the coolant system (don't ask me how I found that out ;)) If he hasn't changed it in the last 40,000 miles, tell him to do a timing belt too, they are only ~$30 and he'll need to remove it anyway to get the pump off...or at least loosen the tensioner, so you might as well pop off the engine mount and replace the belt :)
