Flemke has shared the first photo of #040's new paintwork over on PH.com.
I've instructed them to paint it "Blu Alfa", which is a very dark, solid blue, on the reddish side of blue. It was, supposedly, available on some Alfas in approx 1987-91.
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5110/5582517113_3255fef5f8_b.jpg
To give you an idea, the blue is the cleanest v dark solid blue that I could find, amongst everything that's been on a production car in last 25+ yrs.
I think it looks great! The car will be back together soon - really can't wait to see the rest.

Hello,
thank you Erik.
A good choice interesting to see in real because it looks nearly black on these pics.
do you think it is done at the factory ?

It is a rather dark hue. When he first announced he had chosen a color he mentioned that it was quite similar to 'Rob Walker Blue' seen here on this 250 GTB:
http://i52.tinypic.com/2uoj2pz.jpg (http://www.seriouswheels.com/thumbs-1960-1969/1961-Rob-Walker-Stirling-Moss-Ferrari-250-GT-Berlinetta-Front-Angle-Speed-Tilt-2-1920x1440.jpg) http://i53.tinypic.com/4q0i34.jpg (http://www.seriouswheels.com/1960-1969/1961-Rob-Walker-Stirling-Moss-Ferrari-250-GT-Berlinetta-Side-Angle-Speed-Tilt-1920x1440.htm) <-- Click to enlarge
Another person suggested it should be the same as Fiat's Blue Lord seen here on this Integrale:

And again here:

Another quick quote:
Until fairly recently, they had a sub-contractor do their painting, but now it's done in-house.
He's also mentioned that he's considering adding something in the way of graphics to liven things up a bit - perhaps in white like the Rob Walker car. Whether the result is perceived as good or bad, he's still going to end up with one of the most unique F1s out there. Anyway, I'm sure he won't be lacking anyone's opinion when it's done. :uhoh: :grinyes:

LOL! I'd be surprised if it was paint considering it looks exactly like blue painters tape with the lines and all. To go through that type of effort to replicate the look, lmao.
I thought it was the original color at first 'til I saw the tape lines.

Believe the question has been posed before on PH.com and he's stated that he's never attempted to "set a time" and doesn't pay attention to the stopwatch when he's out there. Seems wise given the uncertain abilities of his fellow 'Ring runners.
Heck, one of them might just freak out having an F1 come up behind them and cause an accident that way. :yikes:

Loving the new details - clear turn signal indicators in the front and on the sides. Blue/Red anodized wheel nuts. White painted ventlines and the white on the bonnet wing. I could live without the pinstripe detailing, but it doesn't ruin anything for me and if it makes the man happy then that is all that matters. :)

I hope to see 040 in it's new livery soon!
I love the clear indicators, small detail but big difference!
Indeed the white section doesn't look bad at all; and the blue and red wheelnuts are a nice (racing)detail too.
Great that you can still individualise so much to your F1 :)

Thanks for sharing, Erik.
Great colour. Really dark, but from what the photos show me, an interesting hide/glow, when it is in proper (day)light.
And like Patrick mentioned, always nice to see how customisation remains a main ingredient of the McLaren service.
With the amount of action that #040 gets, I am already looking forward to the car spotter pictures :D

He was definitely in the process of getting it repainted, was just taking a long, long time to find the right colour.

She's looking good - I'm loving the side strake with the blue boundary and the fact it is cut rather than tapered. IMO the steering wheel appears out of place but that may be the colour of it against the rest of the interior.
Joe takes some good shots - the others he took of when it was over in Germany, on its own in the car park in its previous blue hue were ace

Amazing how poor the finish was when it came out of the factory [unless some Romanians had a quick go down at Flemke's local Tesco ;)] and, despite not being in favour of detailing his car, I understand why he has done it now after the refit and respray. Its also great he kep the sticker in the window

Fortunately...Old Bizzarrini's Lamborghini V12's sounds pretty much same. That's a quite mirracle, if we look how different start points
these BMW and Lamborghini's engines has.
Truly Supercar engine sound, indeed!

Congrats on having the first F1 road car to realize Gordon Murray's original desire to fit the car with carbon brakes. I was just looking at the PH.com thread earlier today wondering if I should bump it to ask for an update. I figured since it had been so quiet that he was hard at work doing something. Thrilled to see this hurdle cleared and can't wait to read what he has to say about them.
Thanks for sharing Joe! :)

It would be very nice to hear how the breaks are working.
Are they carbon-carbon like they tryed or are they todays carbonceramic-brakes like today is the trend?

So far pictures are all we have as there have been no posts from the man himself yet on the PistonHeads thread. I am sure when he has something to say he'll get on with it. :)
Going back a ways, he shared this photo of the bare carbon rotor last year and made some comments:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4139/4866134011_64ff47eabc_z.jpg
"In round numbers, savings versus iron is about 5.5kg/corner front, 4.2kg/corner rear."
"This is carbon/carbon, which weighs half as much as carbon-ceramic, and does not have the heat-spike vulnerability (well, it does, but at a much higher threshold). Also, with carbon-ceramic, you have got to have a servo, but not with this."
Someone else asked: "As I understood it, the heat required to make carbon-carbon brakes work effectively means they were a non-starter for roads use?"
In response: "You are quite correct. Like many problems, however, this one can be solved (not by me, but by a friend who sprinkles his proprietary magic dust on carbon/carbon discs, and has done so on more than one winning car in F1 this year)."

Having seen #040 indoors (in the carbon so to speak), it looks absolutely fantastic outdoors. Although I do like the sqiggle, not sure that it sits right in its position on the bonnet, as it cannot be seen in these pics, it does not draw your eye as a focal point, like it does when you are close up. I do hope the brake testing worked out successfull for Flemke, as this would be an excellent achievement and an automotive (road car) first, something that would even put a smile on Gordon,s face.
I wonder if ABS is still in the pipeline :uhoh:

Hi, I can't help but notice the calipers, they seem to be prototype/gt spec racing calipers, is there any more info on them?

There may be more info over time, but they were on the car before the new discs

As I remember they are indeed endurance racing spec. calipers.
Those calipers can run regular pads, or the carbon/carbon.

Thank you for the replies, they appear to be AP Racing CP6077. I have a thing for calipers, especially the ones of a racing variety:redface:
