Does anyone on here have a police package impala? I've got everything else to work except for the horn. Just wondering what I'm overlooking. I've replaced the horns and checked the fuse and relay under the hood. All that is good because if I jumper the relay, the horns work. So somewhere between the steering wheel and the relay, something is not correct.

Did you plug the red horn wire back to where it goes? The 2 yellow wires connect the air bag assy to the harness. Thats the trigger and system light wirings. Your horn button is located in the Air-bag assy. If the button is bad, you might want to mount a horn button that will not obstruct anything on the dash and is easy to reach. An air-bag assy is booookooo bucks.......horn button is under $10. Do not attempt to locate the horn strips in the airbag. You can damage it. You might want to check the BCM since they are a bout as worthless as a hind tit on a bore hog. Also try the key fob. If the radio has the horn sound when you lock the car and it works then the security and lock system is ok.

If all else fails take the car to an electrical specialist. Or the dealer. Do not attempt any repairs you are unsure on. If you have a meter you can check for power at the horn button and should make a reading when you press the button. You can also locate the wiring harness that comes out of the column and look for where it connects in the block . you can disconnect the battery and try taking apart the connector and reassembling it. That may be a cure too. Good luck.

cop cars may cut the dark green wire under the hood . locate horns and trace back till you fiind the cut wire the hook it up. here is the wire diagram http://arrc.ebscohost.com/searches?car_uuid=1424023&filters%5Bservice_information_type_path_facet%5D=r oot%2Fmrt%2Fsit%2Fp5_diagrams&filters%5Bsystems_component_path_facet%5D=root%2Fm rt%2Fssc%2Fp5_horns

I have a 2004 chevy impala with the police package. I found that behind the passenger side floormat and carpet is a wiring loom that is used for hooking up police equipment to the existing infrastructure. When I first got my Impala the front speakers didn't work and the horn didn't work either. Turns out that police typically will use the front speakers to tie into their radio so they can hear each other's transmissions over the front speakers in tandem with the built in speaker for their police radio. They also like to use the horn button as a substitute for activating the Siren. Under the floor mat I found my green wire was cut and never spliced back to the original wire. After that, the horn worked like a charm; I also fixed the front speakers while I was there :evillol:. Hope this helps.

agree w/ master x as the 22/24 gauge black wire was cut in the police harness under the passenger mat was cut. I spliced it back together and horn works now.

THANKS!

I'm also having problems with my 2005 police package impala's speakers and horn. The only cut wires I find under the passengers side mat are part of a large loom the size of a nickel in diameter and wrapped in black tape. I see no cut loom or even stray wires that match the one's in the large loom to re-connect too. There is also one general 16 gauge speaker wire that appears to be coming down from the steering column--I find no matching wire to re-connect this one as well. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
2005

I would untape the loom you found underneath the passengers side and see if there are any wires that have been cut or spliced. My loom was initially taped up as well and I didn't see the cut wires until I untaped the loom under the passenger side dash. I'm attaching wiring diagram(s) for you to use as a reference. This should help at least narrow down your problem. Initially I had though that the horn switch was at fault but my dad reminded me that if the car is being wired for police service there is no way in hell someone is going to take the time to tear the steering wheel all apart just so they can hook up the siren to the horn switch. It has to be simpler than that. :banghead:

Thank you so much Master X. I pulled the tape off the loom and spliced a light green and a dark green wire--Then spliced a light brown and grey wire, and now my front speakers work! Still not sure which one is for the horn though. I'm so happy about the speakers.

Oh, I just saw your diagrams...should now easily be able to find horn and back speaker wires too. Thanks again.

Your welcome; the diagrams put everything into perspective so you shouldn't have much trouble figuring it out going forward. :iceslolan

sorry for posting a little late but i recently bought a 2007 police package impala and the front speakers don't work, my horn works fine and so do my rear speakers but the front 2 don't work nor the ones that are by the windows. I took it to my cousin who knows about wireing and we checked the loom and the wires and we didnt seem to find the cut wires only ones we found i believe were a pink, red and green/white stripped wires that were cut. Are we looking at the right spot?
