2000 slider door roller assembly

Hi All

On the passenger side slider door on my 2000 windstar the roller wheel has gradually worn down to the point that there is no more nylon on the wheel. This makes it very rough to roll the door open and closed. I went to my local Ford stealership and they don't sell just the roller instead the whole assembly that attaches to the door. It's $100 and frankly I don't want to pay that.

Does anyone have any other ideas, after market parts, etc? I'd consider going to a wrecker but likely the part is going to be equally bashed up so I'm really leaning towards new.

For the record, I have cleaned the track, lubed the roller yada yada.. this part is worn and needs replacement.

Thoughts?

What did you use to lubricate it?
As a suggestion and from own experience my door was also hard to open and close, to be honest I didn't take a look at the roller maybe it wasn't as bad as yours; but I sprayed WD-40 along the entire rail and on the roller and after that I sprayed again this time with silicon spray available at autoparts stores, it worked like a charm and the door is now very I mean VERY soft.

That roller looks somewhat similar though the one on the door has a metal roller bearing with an exterior of nylon. On the driver's side door, (same bracket and wheel just mirror image) the nylon roller has a thickness of about 1/8" inch. On the passenger side this nylon is completely gone, with the door now rolling on raw, rusted metal. As an aside, on an old Aerostar I used to have this roller was a separate Ford part but it appears that it's not separate in the Windstar. I'm going to take the bracket off on the weekend and see if the dorman roller would work. Interestingly (annoyingly) when you go to the dorman site it lists all the vehicles that the roller is for but the windstar isn't included in the list. Kinda leads me to think it might not be what I'm looking for..:banghead:

I'll letcha all know.. I'm just surprised that most guys haven't had this problem because it really looks like a commonly worn part. I don't see that my family opens/closes the door any more than most... maybe I'm just (un)lucky....

Go to a junk yard that has a Windstar and just buy the roller assy. I did, and paid $15 (four bolts)

I've never checked mine ... but now I will. Thanks for the heads-up!
