Here's my first wip on AF. I've decided to do a wip on the Williams Fw 16 from Model factory hiro. This is my first multi media kit I'll be attempting, and it is a full detail kit so progress will be a little slow. I will be attempting to add some more details as i progress through this, with CF decals and a heap of detail nuts that I have aquired from ,Scale motorsports, scale hardware, and rb motion. As well as some extra wiring not in the kit.I shall start with the customry pics of the bits and pieces in the box. As you will also see i have made a start on some painting and CF work. At present Iam drilling out for the bolts in the heads and the exhaust manifold.

Hi Wayne,
nice subject and a great kit to start out with. MFH have great detail and supply almost everything you need. I must admit I have only ever looked in other peoples boxes as the cost prohibits me from buying. I am still kicking myself for missing a MFH Aston DB4GT on ebay, BIN for £140, the closest I'll ever get I think.
Looks like you are off to a good start and the extras you are adding should make this model a stunner.
Regards,
Steve.

Thanks Rob. A small update .I have re carboned the plates on the heads,re painted the block ,drilled holes and added detail bolts on the heads and exhaust flanges. Started to add engine wiring. And made the exhausts a bit more detailed.I flattened some small solder wire to simulate joins and used smaller wire for weld seams. They were painted aluminium metalizer, then some burnt metal, buffed and some blue heat staining. Also added very small brackets a couple of bolts and the wire sensor cable.

I have made more progress. I dressed up the fuel rail a bit from this
http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy291/Theplumber2010/Williams%20%20FW16/FW16WIP016.jpg

to this

http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy291/Theplumber2010/Williams%20%20FW16/FW16WIP027.jpg

http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy291/Theplumber2010/Williams%20%20FW16/FW16WIP026.jpg

I have put the rear end together along with some carbon work, extra details and a bit of wiring.I wanted to dress up the rear suspension /pivot arms a little. It was a big decision to cut the piece up but it turned out alright.

http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy291/Theplumber2010/Williams%20%20FW16/FW16WIP033.jpg
From here I moved onto detailing the brakes. I drilled out and inserted some nut & stud bolts the one on the left has been detailed. Bit hard to see the difference in pic but worth it in real life
http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy291/Theplumber2010/Williams%20%20FW16/FW16WIP029.jpg

The calipers received some bleed nipples and a balance pipe with some detail nuts.

http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy291/Theplumber2010/Williams%20%20FW16/FW16WIP030.jpg

I also wanted to give the front suspension some extra details.Once again it was a hard decision to cut these white metal pieces and play around with them. Its taken a while to get right and I have only made one side. So here is a couple of pics and a mock up shot.

Thanks for the comments guys. Some small progress. I've been detailing away with the steering wheel, dash, seat, sidepods and associated parts.I removed the moulded buttons on the steering wheel and replaced, the same was done for the dash with some CF work

The parts that go on the sidepods were a liitle bit bare

Its been a while and had some painting issues (type of paint, and bloody airbrush), but its good to get this back up and running. After a couple of dissappointed attempts at painting I have come up with this. Not totally perfect in some angles and light but I'll go with it. Its paintedZero Rothmans blue and tamiya flatt white, with 2 coats of ts13 applied, then decaled not sure whether or not to give some coats of zero clear lacquer.Still a few more decals to go on but you get the picture,

I think RamStein meant too big. Well, to me it looks big. But don't feel discouraged, the model is coming out beautiful and remember, you'll always get better with experience. Eventually I will build this car too but it'll be from fujimi. Anyways, keep up the great work!

Its been awhile since last post and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I wasnt happy with previous results and broken decals so I resprayed it again and bought more decals. I think Im up to 4 decal sheets now. Any way this is it. The painting is done the decaling is done. The stripe decals were so difficult to lay down.To me they were fairly thick,in the end they finally went down but left a small crease in decal.may not be able see in pics. After multiple coats of paint then some tamiya gloss some polishing then a few coats of zero lacquer here it is.

Doc305
07-12-2011, 10:50 AM
Painting under the cowling is quicker, cheaper, and less challenging.... Nobody really sees it depending on how you'll display the model. I say challenge yourself and cf it, you'll feel the pride I'm knowing even places where people don't see were taken care of by you. When you show your model to your friends and us you'll have another "and check this out"....
