Hello,
Do you have too, so that you begin the many models and few end up.
Cause I am. This is another :)

I recently watched the latest filem with Sylvester Stallone - The Expendables.
Nothing special for me, I don’t like films of this type. But it caught my attention Sly’s car.
I looked to the Internet and learned that it is a ford f100 in 1955 and built it into the film the guys from West Coast Customs.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/1010tr_051955_ford_f100SEMA_show_2009.jpg

Looks pretty interesting. I thought to try to build something similar.
I bought for this model form AMT ford f100 1953.

It's precision is very poor but maybe I can do something

I apply these rims from Geronimo Works. They are somewhat similar.

Have you seen the "Street customs" TV show where guys from West Coast Customs were building this car? I think it may be very helpful. They were using some Buick grill instead of Ford's one, do you plan to do the same?

Yeah, I have also seen this episode and thought that it would help. Here is a bit of trivia, they actually made three of them, one for show that was going to end up being sly's car, and two for stunting and filming.

One thing that you will see in the show is how they made the gun placing, in the glove boxes

I know very well this episode. It is available on youtube in six parts.

...they actually made three of them...

One of them looks like

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/1010tr_061955_ford_f100front_damage.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/114.jpg

but not that I do

They were using some Buick grill instead of Ford's one, do you plan to do the same?

So I try to do something similar.

The first time I have the workshop model AMT. Is really bad. So much to improve.
This is grill and cooler

I have yet to get rid of these cracks

I began to do grill. This is film car

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/DUMP_004800x600.jpg

and you already know the version of AMT. I have a little cut

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_10941.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1140.jpg

Continued filling of holes, cavities and voids.
I use a two component epoxy compound Magic Sculp

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_10752.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1158.jpg

and the second layer

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1161.jpg

doesn't look good. I have to somehow fit.

Fits firewall

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1183.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1184.jpg

Wheels have not reached me so I can not really do anything with the chassis. So I looked to interior.
This is the interior of the movie truck

which I polished

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1164.jpg

seat

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1166.jpg

I decided to put the seats from Porsche

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1165.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1167.jpg

are somewhat similar

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/wntrze01.jpg

and dashboard

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1226.jpg.

These seats from Porsche (by Fujimi) I was a little pity for this model so I made silicone mold and next resin casting

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1179.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1176.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1175.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1177.jpg

resin reaches everywhere

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1178.jpg

and we have beautiful seat

MidMazar

Thats an interesting way of making sure you have no air bubbles in the resin. One question did you cut the mold in half before the resin step? Keep us posted.

No. I did only a notch from the top so that it is easier to remove the item.

I started doing the center tunnel

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1186.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1187.jpg

I use polystyrene and two-component car fillers.
More or less like it should look like

This glass window by AMT

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1191.jpg

it looks bad, big holes.

Next step is top chop :)

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/wcc11.jpg

Guys from WCC cut roof poles 3inch which gives 3mm

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1205.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1218.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1217.jpg

then I made a small leveling

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1215.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_12151.jpg

I need to cut a roof twice to fit them. At the beginning I made a plaster support :)

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1264.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1265.jpg

and polystyrene rectangle

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1266.jpg

first cut

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1267.jpg

fitting

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1269.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1271.jpg

and finally I completed a gap by Magic Sculp

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1272.jpg

final test match

This is going to look awesome. I think 50's American pick-ups are so cool, I built some AMT chevy pick-ups but they were good kits compared to the one you started with. Your custome work is the best thing that could happen to it.
Looking forward to more progress.

seen that the rear wheels are much larger 22" and my only 19"

If you are not going 100% accurate, the rear should be pretty simple, just notch the frame and move the spring hangars up on the frame. The front will be a bit more difficult, but basically the same as the rear.

If authenticity is what you are after, I'd presume they have mustangII independant front suspension and a sectioned rear frame with trailing arm suspension and coil over shocks in the rear.

I searched for images on the internet and decided to do a new suspension.
So it looks like standard front suspension

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/p144130_image_large.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/p144132_image_large.jpg

and this is a basic element of the set to change the independent suspension

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/p144133_image_large.jpg

and then it looks like this

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/p144151_image_large.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/p144135_image_large.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/p144136_image_large.jpg

I found a picture from a modification of the suspension, here are some

I improved my prototype

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1391.jpg

I used brass and copper rods and tube

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1392.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1393.jpg

I did the threaded height adjustment

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_13961.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_13941.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1398.jpg

I have to improve the spring, is too thick wire.

I have to improve the spring, is too thick wire.

Maybe. You have to remember you are building a truck which is inherently heavier than a car, so a heavier spring should be in order...however, if you just simply cut a coil or two out of the spring and stretched it out so it doesn't look so bunched up, that might give you the look you are seeking.

This build is so great! I am very happy to be able to watch you build this truck.

Nice suspension mods (and love the whole build as well).

As an upcoming automotive engineer I'm wondering how the handling will be of that truck, with those suspension mods... :)

rsxse240 thank you for your very accurate observation.
I'll try to do that as you wrote.

You are off to a good start. I didn't realize that problems the old AMT tooling suffered from.

M.Boy

I changed a crossbar in the lower arm because she was too thin

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_13971.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1402.jpg

permanently attached the brackets and I removed the old attachment

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1407.jpg

I started doing the rear suspension. Initially I thought it would be popular in this model, a set of four parallel bars

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/53-56-4bar1a.jpg

and one to the rear axle

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/53-56-panhard1.jpg

then there are the springs and dampers

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/1012cct_01_o1955_ford_f100differential800x600.jpg

or

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/53-56-4bar3.jpg

but it turned out that it is not so.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/1010tr_021955_ford_f100WCC_staff1.jpg

do not see the parallel bars so I started to watch a movie and

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/rearsusp.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/rearsusp02.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/rearsusp03.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/rearsusp04.jpg

they used a solution with the rods at an angle. Something like that

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/0807cct_07_z1954_ford_f100ford_9_inch_rear_end.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/street_shop_inc_project54_large_05.jpg

I started to work, increased the wheel arches

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1404.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1403.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1406.jpg

I cut a beam where it will be fuel tank and pasted mounting rod

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_14081.jpg

and

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1410.jpg

wheels will be nice to hide in the wheel arches

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/grafit_photo/F100/IMG_1412.jpg

this really is stunning, one of my favourite builds so far, i've got one similar yet to do, it's a Revell '55 F100 Panel Van in 1:24 so i'm looking at this for inspiration

I know it's premature but when can we see some paint on it?
