I have a chance to get a tranny out of a 99 Taurus with the 3.0 Duratec engine and our Windstar has the 3.0 engine which I believe is the Vulcan engine. Will the Taurus tranny fit the 98 Winstar? I do not know the tranny #'s of either tranny.
Thanks

I believe that under the air filter box, you should see a tag on the tranny with a part number.
I believe that the Taurus shared the same engine/tranny with the Windstar, except for there were multiple versions of the 3.0 engine. That being said, I believe there was only one transmission. Same year bodes well for you. Another option is to look up on autozone like you want to buy a tranny. It should tell you exactly which one you need.
Hopefully it works for you.

Thanks Mark, I looked on autozone, oriellys sites and the flywheel sizes are different for the duratec and vulcan engines from what I understand. I think it is a AX4S tranny but will check out more. I do not know about the tranny electronics if they are different or plug an play. I will do more research.
thanks again
