Have a 2008 Impala LT with 3.9 engine and 90K miles. Read a lot about Dex Cool being bad stuff as it ages then taking out LIM and head gaskets. What does anybody think about changing mine out and what do you suggest to put back in? Any certain process you advise? I would like to avoid the gasket issues if possible.

dexcool is dexcool only IF the container says GM APPROVED DEXCOOL. compatible coolants are not dexcool...................

the next issue with all these bad reports of dexcool is not,, enough dexcool...some warm climate owners use less than 50 % dexcool..

then theres the use of dirty tap/well water, this is not to be used. only distilled water ...

wash out the coolant tank after draining as much as you can , then use a 65% dexcool to distilled water mix to re fill...

I think your engine coolant capacity is about 3 gallons but find out how much it does take totally..not sure on that engine you have.

drain the engine if possible..do not run engine or do this with a warm/hot engine...replace coolant when cold.

replace this coolant every 3-4 years no more than this..

I have had this coolant since 1995 and ALL vehicles have not had any of these dexcool issues..

all it would take is for some lube guy to put just a few ounces of the wrong coolant with dirty water to screw your engine up..

with those miles I would replace the thermostat..
