Door key turns but doesn't engage/disengage lock

Morning,
I have a 2004 base Chevy Impala that I had to have the door jimmy'd open after I left my keys in the car (first time for everything). Anyways, a while after that happened, I noticed my key can turn in the driver's side door lock but it doesn't engage/disengage the lock. The key will only turn the standard amount, it doesn't freely spin around. It took me a while to notice because I always use the fob. The fob works fine to lock/unlock the door as does the inside manual lock. When the door is opened/closed or when I go over bumps, I can hear something rattling or hitting something on the inside of the door.
I've watched some videos on how to take apart the door and wanted to take a look but was wondering if that sounds like something I could fix. In the videos, I see the long bars for the inside door handle and the inside lock that run down across the door..I'm not sure if it would be that since it's the outside lock cylinder that doesn't work but I'm not sure what I would be looking for at that point as the videos I've seen do not cover the outside lock.
Thank you to everyone for your time.
