Hello everybody,

sometimes little things lead to something you'd never have imagined. In this case, Micha (sportracer02) found a picture of a Porsche Cayman with a racing livery on the internet. He sent an email to a couple of modeling friends. We looked if we could source more pictures of Caymans in racing liveries and found a racing series called The Cayman Interseries (http://www.napletonmotorsports.com/services.html).

As everyone of us had the Fujimi Cayman kit in stock we decided to start a group build. Mike said he'd help with decal printing and that he would cast a number of parts in resin and create some PE parts as well. I started the WIP thread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1010880) on April 11th 2010 - and almost 60.000(!) clicks until today proved that the idea of building modern racecars with historic liveries was a rather good one :sunglasse

Many thanks go to all the drivers from the real Cayman Interseries who supported us with detail pictures and information. Many thanks also to David A. Wilks for letting us use the photographs from his homepage pixxbytango.com (http://www.pixxbytango.com). Special thanks to Ron Barnaba from Napleton Porsche, who was so kind to let us use the official Cayman Interseries and Napleton Porsche logos.

Well.... on to the pictures. All in all we have twelve finished Cayman Interseries racecars, ten of which gathered in Frankfurt this weekend at the annual car model show...

Sorry for the quality of the pictures, the lighting at the show confused my camera. Will add/replace pictures later. I am sure that the other guys are going to add their pictures here as well...

I hope everybody enjoyed the group build and is as happy as we are about the outcome. Two weeks ago we thought we might have a maximum of five cars on display - but once of a sudden we had ten of them! Special thanks to Steven (Klutz100), who came all the way from Poland to display his Pink Shinken :smooch:

As the Cayman is an alligator in real life and we had a pink pig on display... I couldn't resist to do some photoshopping...

Yes, indeed a great project just like the old days.
And the Cayman's also look very smooth!:smooch:

Did you made the building yourself also?
How did you make the clouds/sky?
And did you made it just for this project?
It looks like the pitbuildings on the Nurburgring, or is that just coinsendence?:jerking:

Hello to all participants,

I am very happy that the picture that Micha has sent me in the morning, and that I forwarded to Sebastian (voyageur) and Dirk (dpbeetle) has had such an amazing effect. Saying we exchanged a few mails would qualify as the understatement of the year! The mailbox just kept filling up with new
picturs somebody found on the web. Dirk even found the Jägermeister version before I did.

I am also happy that this groupbuild triggered so much international interest after Sebastian started the WIP thread here in AF. It was heaps of fun developing the parts, resin and photoetch for this project.

I also want to thank the organizers of the 1:1 series Cayman Interseries. Without that idea this amazing project would have never started in the first place.

Hopes had been on seeing 6-7 finished models in Frankfurt. I was very surprised to see ten finished cars. Most of all I was happy to see Steven (Klutz100) with his Pink "Shinken" that also has a pink "Shwanz"
Everybody downshifted about two weeks ago and accelerated their builds in order to finish it by the deadline we set early in this project.

Hopefully we'll see the other finished Caymans (RobiJ, Hiro Furkada, Gio, Dirk, etc....) on our Porsche Zentrum and Nürburgring diorama in FFM 2011! That would be a great reunion.

I totally agree with Gio, and in order to honour Sebastian and Mike’s efforts (as well as the attention of Promoter and Drivers) I’ll do my best to finish my Lowenbrau filling the wip thread. It would be very nice to have the chance to meet you next year !

Hi Robi,

that's great news! Seems like the ideas of taking a couple of Caymans to a racetrack has inspired more people than just us modelers. Could become quite an interesting thing in the future.

Congrats to all who (almost) finished their builds in time for the show.

I really enjoyed following the WIP thread (and hope the unfinished ones will still appear in it), and it's great to see so many (and above all beautiful) finished cars in this Gallery thread.
