Yes thats the same car and the same Elmer. I dont think there is much C5 corvette in it though as its a full tube frame car with a C5 "body" on it. Beautiful peice of work. Blaise is the gentlemen that built that car and is also working on the Panoz. The Panoz did a 1:24.85 at Mosport over the weekend, which was good enough for second overall in a one hour race. On Sunday I dropped a valve and that was it for the day as the motor has never been freshened and was due for an overhaul anyway as its 5 years old. Blaise thinks that there is a lot of potential in the car and thinks that it is doable to be as fast as Elmers car with the right setup and powertrain in it. For me its a matter of reliability as I dont want to be doing engine rebuilds half way through the season.
Elmer did a 1:20.2 at Mosport which is his best ever time. Blaise did a 1:17 in his new Transam car and to put that in perspective 2010 Cup Cars are hard pressed to do a 1:23. To do a 1:24.8 in the Panoz with zero mods other than making it safe we were very pleased. Next year I hope to be at least 3 seconds faster and perhaps get more of a glimpse of Elmer as he is a great driver and has a beautiful car. Jim Thompson did a fantastic job on the car and its definitely the fastest Panoz in Canada!
