High Beam Switch

OK, I've been thru most of the threads regarding high beams, but couldn't find an answer. When I pull back the turn signal switch to for the high beams to come on, they will just not stay on. The switch will not click to stay in position. Will I have to replace the turn signal switch and If so, how hard is it to replace?
Any help on this issue would greatly appreciated.............:runaround:

I've had the same problem with my 2000 Impala LS for some time and have learned to live with it rather than go to the expense of having it repaired . I don't have many occasions where the high beams are needed and the regular low beams and driving lights are fine for my driving .

On earlier GM models... (I know my 1991 Corsica was one of them) - the turn signal/high & low beam lever would work itself loose overtime causing it not to reach and engage the little switch to change from low to high beams. This problem sounds a lot like what you've just decribed legotech7... I don't think you need a new turn signal switch!

To fix this problem you would just remove the steering column shroud to gain access to the turn signal lever and with a small screw driver re-adjust and re-tighten the 2 screws holding the lever in place making it work like new again...

Maybe GM still has the same pricipal design on your steering column and this fix could be performed on your vehicle!

Posting the year of the car would help!

It's a 2000 LS, also, I was reading thru the Haynes manual and it says I should turn off the Theft Lock Audio feature before I dissconnect the battery. Is this done thru the radio?

Did you do this adjustment and did it help? I'm having the exact same issue on my 2000 Impala and it has to be working to pass safety inspections. I found the entire lever assembly for $117 online, but if it can be adjusted without being replaced, that would be ideal.

No, haven't had the time, waiting for a free week end. I'll post the results when I'm done. And If I have time I'll take some pics.

Hmm,
On my car you push it forward for high beams and pull it back for flash passing.

It used to click and it got harder and harder to lock it in place. Now I can't get it at all.

When I use turn my high beams on and off, my head lights completely shut off and I have to click it again to get them back on, bottom line, I don`t use my high beams, faulty switch (another common problem).
