Just replaced the camshaft position sensor on our 2005 cruiser (95K miles), fault code showed it as a intermittent failure, new one cost 39.95, and took about 10 minutes to replace.
glad i bought that code reader a few years ago!
anybody else had one of these fail??
thanks!

Did the code have a number? Also, what were the syptoms?

can't remember which code it was, but it was a camshaft position sensor "intermittent fault", car would hardly run, the wife was barely able to limp it home from 1 block away.
fairly easy to replace, just move the air cleaner lid out of the way and remove 2 small bolts at the end of the cylinder head, unplug the harness and take it out, install the new one in it's place and you're done! clear the codes and back down the road you go

Thanks for the info., Bearcat. Mine is not dying, just idling very badly and check engine light is on. I thought maybe the cam sensor was a culprit. I just finished cleaning the TB and resetting the light, i'm going to see if that helps. It is idling better, but I'll see about the light.

if your pt is running rough, try some fuel injector cleaner or a full tank of premium. it won't hurt and it will clean up the valves. toivo

Thanks Toivo,

Over the long weekend I cleaned the TB, put in new plugs and ran Chevron Techron (polyethylanime I think) and it is running smooth and no check engine light. It took about 100 miles with the fuel additive to get the light to go out. Cleaning the TB and new plugs made it run smoother, but I think it needed the injector cleaner to clear the light. I've tried the premium gas thing only on the past, but noticed no difference.
