I think my 02 Impala is possessed by gremlins. We have had this problem almost a year now. Off and on our turn signals and brake lights wouldn't work. Sometimes if we turned off the car and back on they go back working. Then the fuse would constantly blow or the turn signal bulbs would burn out (connectors look good). With the fuse out the brake lights would work off and on. It got to the point that we would put a new fuse in and it would immediately pop. So I tried to put one size bigger fuse in it (only what we had) and we started smelling burnt wire so we took it out. The bigger fuse caused the a/c fan controller to go (replaced it works fine now). Now when we hit the brake the left turn signal light comes on in the dash and in the front. If we put a fuse in and hit the hazard button the light goes out the brakes stays on, and cruise control doesn't work. When we hit the turn signal bar i hear a click (i think) where the hazard button is. Tore the dash apart today (almost completely) and the wires that went to the hazard button are melted in spots. Only code that comes up on the car is misfiring (replaced plugs and a couple other things still doing it). Headlights work fine high and low beams and daytime running lights. Turn signal/beam switch is fine had it checked out already. We replaced the BCM 2 or 3 years ago. Any ideas whats going on and how to fix it?

Sometimes the reason fuses blow is because of a bad bulb, either in the taillights or the front turn signal/marker light. Also,if there is any rust inside the socket,it could be shorting the system out.A sign that you have a short between your brakelights and turnsignals is that you apply the brakes and your turnsignal light stays on the dash.Do you have a trailer hitch on this car?Sometime the socket gets rusted or where they tie the wires into, has a bad place in it.My turnsignals been acting up also.Sometimes they work and sometimes they dont.If I turn of the ignition and back on again they work but nothing like what you are having blown fuses.
