:moppie: .....#05R for sale...... :sadwavey:
Now we all just have to hope, the car gets good loving knowing home, stays at Europe, stays race specs and stays that fantastic Yacco livery. I really hope that. Really! :lol2:
So...Erik, Greg, Le Man, have you any rumours, anything, any small or nothing what's going to happen to #05R?
It's on sale in France?

As long as whoever buys it decides against Papaya Orange then I'll be pleased.
That said it would be lovely if the new owner took it racing and kept it exactly as it is.

I emailed the auctioner and asked if 5R is viewable for the public.
Well it is sort of. Only if you buy the catalog of 30 -40 euros you may enter their tent and watch and photograph the F1...
Well I think I'll do it then:)

Who ever buys it will be very very lucky! An amazing paint job. My guess 2.34 million Euro.

I've been proven wrong before, but I'm going to go on record that their pricing estimate is rather ambitious for this car, and depending on if and where the reserve is set I think that it will be a no-sale at this auction.
The only way I can foresee being wrong here is if several potential bidders really put great value in the art-car livery and the story behind it and purchase the car for that reason. Artcurial are certainly up-selling it on that point in their auction description.
It might be one thing if this car had been preserved after the '95 LeMans race as #01R has been, but we all know it continued on racing for a few more years under several variations of a pair of liveries so I'd suspect what is on the car now is a repaint and not the original work.
Perhaps this car will bring a surprise? :dunno:

I've received clarification on these comments through a friend who spoke with Artcurial ahead of tomorrow's auction:
"All Cesar originally did was paint his artwork on a model car. Someone else transferred that onto the car in paint. That same person did it again to restore the car."
This seems very strange to me. I can't think of any other famous Art Cars that weren't actually painted by the artist named, or for that matter any famous paintings where the artist did a small version and then someone else made the one to hang on the wall in the gallery. To me it's like a print made from an original work and those generally sell for less - and in this case, it's a reprint, not the first edition.
It will be very interesting to see the results from tomorrow's auction.

Endurance-Info.com is reporting GTR #05R sold for €1,800,000 or roughly $2.275M
Last but not least, came the turn of Lot 160, the famous McLaren F1 GTR, 1994, with a starting price of ... 1 200 000€ ! Amount not off-putting to collectors, since McLaren was awarded after a great struggle for the sum of € 1,800,000.
Translated from here. (http://www.endurance-info.com/version2/actualite-endurance-4804.html)
Considering it is the world's only 1994 McLaren F1 GTR I think the price should have been much, much higher. :p
Glad to see it find a new home - lets hope we start seeing more of it soon.

Thanks for clarifying this Phil. Another friend has told me a similar story and I note from the results which are now up on the Artcurial Motorcars site that the car is listed as 'Unsold'. It seems Claude from EnduranceInfo was mistaken.
My friend told me it can be confusing to tell whether a car has sold as they hammer the bidding no matter what. Must have been disappointing to Hervé Poulain after putting so much effort into selling the car. I noted they pulled their estimates for this car from their website ahead of the auction, but the car certainly didn't command a price anywhere near the initial ones they had.
Looking forward to the photos and video from you and your friends. :)

EnduranceInfo have issued a correction to their earlier story reporting the sale of GTR #05R now - of course it is still being referred to as a 1994 model, but I blame Artcurial for that... :uhoh:
Last week, after the auction Artcurial in the Le Mans Classic, we announced the sale of the McLaren F1 GTR painted in 1994 by Caesar with the help of Filip-O, for an amount of € 1,800,000.
In fact, McLaren (Lot 159) is unsold because the reserve price has not been reached (the reserve price is the minimum price below which the object owner does not wish to sell). Matthieu Lamoure, the Director of the Department's Automobile Collection Artcurial, we confirmed that this situation is identical to the Porsche 935 ex-Interscope 1978 (Lot 129) Jean-Marc Luco-the latter having won on Sunday the overall classification Tray 6 with his Porsche 936), decorated by FILIP-O.
Matthieu Lamoure has also indicated that negotiations were underway for McLaren.
This latest piece of news includes a nice shot out in the sunlight here (http://www.endurance-info.com/version2/images/news/10_LMC_prep11.JPG).

is it just me or does the art work detract from the flowing lines of the car?

carbuilder - I think that's pretty much true of all the Art Cars. The thing I like about this one is that it isn't just a bunch of wacky lines or shapes that really have no meaning. I don't usually get that type of art in general so after learning of the true inspiration for Cesar's design this one works for me. YMMV.

A shame for all involved that they couldn't come to an agreement. I personally think that the €1.8M bid was pretty strong money for this particular car.

My little finger told me that the minimum price was bettween 2.4 and 2.7 million €

Well up to this point there's certainly been no precedent for that kind of value with a GTR. Recent sales of #16R and #13R didn't come close to those amounts as far as I know. I don't see this particular one having the qualities that could command such a price either, at least not now. If there was a buyer for that car at those prices then I'm sure this effort to sell the car through Artcurial would have found them. Of course in an auction scenario you'll usually need more than one eager bidder to drive the price up.

I don't have exact numbers, but certainly far less than the figures Davidoff41 just quoted as the desired prices for #05R.
Around the time 16R was sold the asking price was reported to be £1.6M (€1.9M/$2.4M). I was told the asking price for #13R was even less than that - around $2M (€1.5M/£1.3M).

Sami - a better version if you didn't have it already:

My brother watched this program Mobil 1 The Grid, on UK TV this morning, so I went looking for an online link.
Very nice segment on the LeMans Classic, small but nice clip of #05R. :smokin:

So the artist who was actually responsible for painting #05R was Filip Godet who goes by the name "FILIP O" and I've just found this pair of images hosted under that name on Panoramio.com. :sunglasse

I've had that first image for a very long time, but never at that resolution. Of the people in the second shot the man on the left is #05R's original owner, Jean Luc Maury-Laribiere, and the one in the middle next to the lady is Hervé Poulain. I don't recognize anyone else but assume one of the other men would be Filip. A pretty cool period photo I think.

I love these pics "from nowhere" ! Very cool Erik !
It was in front of a theater avenue Montaigne near Champs-Elysées in Paris ! This street has probably seen at least 5 F1s pass over the years ! Including #046 in june 2005 :)

Hello,
in fact, I do nothing with it because the car was not sold ? I am afraid we are a few interested by this vid...

I was just hoping to see the part where they started the engine during the bidding if that story was indeed true. That would be pretty cool to see.
