I replaced the intake gaskets on my 98 Tahoe with the 5.7L in it today and now it wont start up. Im assuming I messed up the timing when I pulled the distrubutor when I pulled it. Everything else seems to be good. The distribtor needs replaced anyways means it has a broken ear and wont hold the cap properly. How do I get the timing right again? Im heading back to Iraq of R&R in a few days a need some help. Thanks.

Make sure the #1 cylinder is at top dead center. With the spark plug out you should feel compression out of the hole with you finger as you turn it over by hand. If you don't feel compression your on the exhaust stroke and you'll need to turn the crank another 180 and then line up the timing mark on the crank pulley.

Drop the distributor in so that the rotor is pointing as close to the #1 wire as possible.

HERE IS FIRST THING TO DO.

Second step after it starts and runs is to get it on a engine capable scanner and check/set camshaft retard.
