Revell 1/24 corvette c6r

Hi,

This is my latest addition to my collection. Took about 3 months to build, but I took easy probably spending most of the build time during the weekend.

I used the SMS detail kit and took out the two doors. I initially wanted to also cut out the rear hatch and detail the rear end. But I decided be "sane" and gave up the idea.

Once awhile, I still think about opening the rear hatch, maybe I am regretting the fact that I should have done, or I could have done... :headshake

The Revell kit builds fine, with little or not fitting problems. The clear parts fit well and also the chassis fits to the under body without any issues.

There are problems with the kit- the front hood needs some sanding to fit in, the alignment of the front/rear wheels need work, and lastly the carbon fiber decals from the Revell kit does not look proper.

I think the SMS kit really enhance the overall appearance especially with the beautifully machined wheels and the diffuser. It has its own problem, mainly the decals for the blinkers are wrong (one side is included twice) and the transparency film for the windshield/window is hard to work with.

I took some photos and realized that I still need to correct the "windshield wiper", paint the blinkers, and correct the rear caliper location.

Anyway, I've said too much, here are the photos:

That's a super-stunner, looks amazing, and beautifully built. I guess you could have shaved the door panels down to scale thickness for more realism, but actually it looks pretty good on the model like it is, and the overall effect of the doors is great, I love how you can see those awesome interior details. Looks like a really nice kit too, so well done Revell.

Very nice. At first look I thought paint were thick, but looking deeply is just becouse the finish is quite gloss: panel lines are nice and sharp. Congratulation: very nice subject, model, finish details and superb photo skills you share. BRAVO!

Firstly I can't believe that this thread has had over 1000 views and yet has only 20 or so comments..!! People just don't seem to appreciate quality.....
Your model is absolutely beautiful, a stunning rendition of the real car in every way. The quality of your work and the impeccable photography make for a very impressive build. May I ask which brand/colour yellow you used for the bodywork and could you share a little about your camera set up and how you created the pictures with the black background..??

:lol2::lol2::lol2:

Thank you guys for kind feedback, I really appreciate it!

Believe or not, this was my first Corvette build! I am planning to tackle C5R also, I think it will be fun. Sure it is no Ferrari nor Austin Martin that we all love about, but I have to say "GM" did a fantastic job creating a world class super car.

Thanks! I do usually lay somewhat thicker clear coat and very dark panel line wash hoping to bring out a sharper contrast. I suppose this is my style. :)

Thanks Steve, but you are too kind! :) I am humble that you liked my model.

As far as the photography is concerned, I found that with a proper lighting, you can bring out fantastic shine which makes the model looks so much better. To minimize harsh light, I bounce off my light to the ceiling, but I also have a small lamp that lit up the car from the front so I don't hide the details.

For the camera, I used Canon 5D with 24-105mm L lens shooting at approx. 1/120s~1/160s with 8~10f.

The background is nothing more than a white paper board... The shinny floor is a black marble stone that I bought from a local home builder store.

I do have WIP which describes tools, parts, and paints I used. I think I also have 100+ pictures taken for this. Thank god for the digital camera, what would we do if we are using a film camera for this? I don't think we can afford the photo developing fees! :grinno:

Steve is as good at taking photos as he is making great models. What a combination!! Look forward to seeing anything you build in pictures and in person.
