highway racing?

i own a 99 Eclipse GSX, and I heard Supras are fast on the highway, i can top my GSX topspeed at 171 mph on like a 3-5 mile road?? What other cars are fast on the highway?

I would love to hear what you have done to your car to get it to top out at 171!

With my gearing I should top out at 170

Because of my limiter I stop at 120

its not stock, i modified it with a 18g turbo, Blitz blow-off, HKS Turbo Timer, clutch, air intake, etc... i did top it off at 171, i also worked on the clutch too get it to go 171, it took me almost 1 minute to get to 171!

I am sorry I seriously doubt you can tell me anything to make me believe you on this! I think 171 mph is a number you just pulled out of your head.

Just curious how you knew you where going that fast? The speedometers dont go that high do they? Go back it up with a radar reading or GPS reading. Just a bit suprised you didnt flip into the air at that speed.

Gotta remember after about 90mph aerodynamics become your biggest enemy along with weight... the Bird although 'sleek' to an extent... its just a brick through air compared to something a bit sportier...

And... lets see some proof of this 170mph GSX... also.. what do you run in the quarter. If its something stupidly low i'd like to know how you can manage Low Et AND high speeds...

considering the gearing in the car, you'd have to have a pretty built motor to hit that kind of speed with the aerodynamics you've got..

and considering the people i know with dsm's around here, you'll need 300+hp...

interesting that you mention the turbo timer as a mod. it's not.

no mention of exh... no mention of a changed rev limit. no mention of built motor. no fmic. hmm...

once you've got those things, like the rebuilt motor and fmic and a bigger than 18g turbo (like a t3/t4 setup or a 20g) and some more electronics in there... then you'll need that "clutch" you've got...

no downpipe mentioned, no suspension upgrades mentioned... no fueling upgrade mentioned...

to pull that kind of number out and say you went that fast, and then list what amounts to nothing for mods...

give us the full list... or admit you're lying...

Since we're on the topic of top speed. I would like to let you all know that i just got my accord, with intake and exhaust up to 190mph with a 50mph headwind, driving up hill, on a road covered in ice. Ohh and I about forgot the most import part, I was towing an 18 wheeler. It was a strugle at first to get the cemi moving, but once VTEC kicked in I was gone. :D

171 is pure bullshit, in all his mods he didnt mention one drive train mod besides the clutch. The gsx tops out at 139mph. So in order to get 171, you would need:

1. Regeared tranny
2. Stronger axles
3. Stronger flywheel
4. Stronger plated clutch


And that is just presuming that you have about 450hp, which is funny why you have such a short list of mods, because with a car like your, I am sure you would list every single mod you have ever done any chance you get. So, untill we see your etc list, please shutup and go away troll.

nah i think i'm goin to contribute to this thread by goin back to the original subject, and answer his question. yes a supra has high end. a supra will have more high end that a little DSM can ever dream off. can't compare those cars together. they just simply are not in the same class. in japan the top weapons of choice for wagan racing *highway* are the supras, rx-7's, nsx, and skyline gt-r. in japan they don't even have eclipses. ahahah. anyways, yeah any one of those cars can either break 200mph, or can come pretty damn close. but it would take a supra less work to break 200mph mostly becusae its more aerodynamic then a skyline. where it will take a skyline over 1000hp and a major rework in the gear ratios to break 200mph, a supra can do it with around 800hp becuase its alot more sleeker. and for the nsx. i'm pretty sure it can go that fast too, its just that i've never seen any nsx break the 700hp mark. so even though the body is more sleeker then the supras, it just lacks the grunt. the rx-7's i'm not too sure about. i'm pretty sure there are a few rx-7's with the Cosmo's 20B triple rotor swap that can break 200mph also.

i just read the link that flysi linked. i doubt any of those eclipse can go as fast as they claim. those speed are freakin near super car speed. there is no way in hell that a stock sport compact with either a tiny ass stock turbo, or even worse, a n/a can hit that kind of speed. i'll be even happy if my car can hit 135mph. and my car has a fair amount more power then a eclipse, better drivetrain, and is more sleeker in shape. these guys are making fast speeds seem less ridicious becuse in there everyone seems to be casually sayin they hit htat speed with their stock GS's and etc.

Thats a turbo Eclipse, and it is not even highly modded. When you work out the gearing he is almost doing 180.

That was the sorriest video I have ever seen. Plus if the guy in the video did it it doesn't mean that the one in this post did! The one in the video sounded like it had been highly moded. It had a loopy idle which tells me yes it was modded.

Loopy idle= highly modded??? Poor vac at idle= loopy idle. He was upgraded cams, what do you expect.

A new turbo isn't highly modified by any means. It has no internal work, no head work or any other thing that I would consider to make it highly modded.

Naturally awd DSMs are slower at top speed, but they are great off the line. They can pull 1.8 60's pretty much stock.

Yes but I am not claiming obserd top speeds. I am sorry but anything over say 160mph is supercar territory. And just in case you don't know what a supercar is a few examples are as follows: Ferrari, McLarren F1, Porshe etc. Not fake dsm's claiming to do 171 and 180 mph, you guys are so dumb it is obserd the speedo's in those cars don't go anywhere near that high, so did he have like a ferrari 360 or 550 or something like that beside him? the speedo goes to 170 btw, and then basically any dsm with a full exhaust, new turbo and a boost controller is a supercar. And any ways at high speeds, speedos aren't very accurate, instead you figure out your speed with the gear ratios, tire size, and rpms. Even if the speedo went to 80 mph you could still figure your speed out.

speedos tend to read faster than what you're running at higher speeds. tachs (factory) aren't that accurate either. so what are you trying to pull here?

a "mildly" modded gsx couldn't hit 160 or 170.

i've got a few highly modded gsx's in my group of friends, and no one runs that fast without considerable mods.

for example, my car, which at 2000rpm in 5th is doing 40, will theoretically hit 144 at the rev limiter at 7200. which i don't know that i can find, mainly b/c of the aerodynamics of my car.

also... i've found from dsm owners that things like your rear hatch tend to get really shaky about 150... so do you have the extra tie downs and what not to keep it on?

Yes with the proper gear ratio and about 600 hp maybe. Why dont you shut your pie hole and research the fact that at those speeds the aerodynamic drag on the car is so high you would need crazy hp to overcome it! So think about that pal!:mad:

don't really think u can add the DSM to a list of supercars...an btw, i've never heard of RPMs, only RPM...:D (i kno im a jackass). i say until the guy puts up a list of mods, then i gotta be pretty skeptical.

The video I posted was in a car that had at most 450 horsepower. It clearly hit over 170 mph. He was bouncing off the factory set 7500 rpm redline, hmm that rules out factory tach. So at 7500 rpm, in 5th gear it IS IMPOSSIBLE for him to be doing less that 180 mph. I guess your friends with highly modded dsms dont know what they are talking about. I have hit 150 and no my hatch does not shack at all.

A 2G fwd dsm has a 5th gear ratio of 0.741. So at 7500 rpm the it would be spinning at 10,121.46 rpm. With a final drive of 4.153 the axel would be spinning at 2437.14 rpm or 40.619 rps. With a tire that is 79.98 inches around spinning at 40.619 rps that is 270.742 fps. That is 974671 feet per hour. Divide by 5280 and what do you get????

yes, he forgot to remember that there is a very important equation for deducting the distance that a wheel whil travel simple using the diameter of a tire, you cannot simply do this

Sidewall+wheel+sidewall=x
x*Pi=y
y*(RPS)=(traveled distance/per second)

I assume you are talking about load on the tire smushing it down thus decreasing its diameter. That would not really come into play on a car with low downforce and at such high speeds. And the centrifugal force would probably cancel that out anyways. Anyways I'm done with the math. Believe what you want.

You both had better show some proof or stop trolling around here. First it was 171, now it is 160s. I don't buy any of this.

You have to take a lot of things into account when hitting those speeds. Factory speedometers aren't that accurate, even at moderate speeds. And looking at his speedo, he wasn't doing over 170. According to the speedo he was close, but you need to more hard evidence to back that up like a radar reading. Hell changing the size of your wheels will mess up the speedo.

Also a bigger turbo is still a lot of work to install, the guy in the video also seems to have a boost controller and air/fuel regulator, which take a good amount of tuning to get the right settings. He has put a lot of time and money into that car to get it to run that fast. Also, someone needs to tell him that he is going to blow his engine shifting like an idiot.

Both of you show some proof of these claims and stop posting BS and start posting the truth. You are only going to start a flame war, and I will not tolerate that.
