This is the 1st of my two builds for the Group Tribute Build, for the first time (in my modeling career I think) Im taking on two builds at once so please shout up if you see me attaching anything Subaru onto a Peugeot & Vice Versa :grinyes:

Here's whats in the box:

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03761.jpg

I have ordered the Crazy Modelers detail set and the Marlboro's from Media Mix so fingers crossed they will be here soon. Im sure many of us have a few Pug's in our stashes and I'm no different however Im not going to be opening up this one, it was tempting after seeing the fabulous work that Ray is doing on his 2001 Sub but Im not on this one or on the other build.

Here's the roll cage...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03769.jpg

and after being cleaned up of mould lines etc and with a coat of primer, this is to be sprayed alu.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03785.jpg

I removed all the moulded rivets from the shell and made a tiny drill hole where each one will be as Im going to replace these with etched versions.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03772.jpg

I added the two extra intake's as you can see in this pic however I havent the foggiest why Tamiya decided to make this rectangular hole in the bonnet and then supply a piece for us to fill it in with - WHY? :screwy:

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03770.jpg

As for the underside, these gaps wont do...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03773.jpg

out with the trusty plascard (I used the thinnest piece I had so that they will curve to fit the arch easier

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03774.jpg

and slowly (very) for them all in place...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03776.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03778.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03779.jpg

with a carefull bit of shaping the shell still fits over these extra widened inner arches and this makes it look alot neater now.

finally the underside having been primed was given its first coat of TS49...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03784.jpg

and the top shell primed in white...

Hi Sean,

wow great start !
An opened Peugeot 206 ?? whaahahaa :naughty: I will follow it very closely ! :evillol:

The hole of the hood is there because Tamiya didn't change its mold when releasing the late 2002 & 2003 version.

That's why you'll also need a correct rear wing, have you noticed that ?
The central dashboard isn't correct any more, too, in the late 2002 & 2003 versions.

Good luck with this 206, I'll always be somewhere just behind you watching above your shoulder for that one ! :naughty: :p

Ack - I just noticed, you didn't remove the CF panels from the sides of the roll cage - these are absent after 2001 and another carry over from Tamiya's original mold.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will forward the reference photos for this car I have to you. (they may also make you decide to remodel the fuel cell amongst other things)

update...

firstly here's the Crazy Modeler set - extremely impressive and brilliant value for money considering how much you get in the box (Acu-stion take note here and start improving your sets or lowering the cost).
The brakes look incredibly detailed and up there with the best that I have seen in 1/24 scale, I can thoroughly recommended this set!

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03792.jpg

the bottom...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03789.jpg

added alu foil for the heat protection in the transmission tunnel and also finished painting the engine, seems like such a shame that its going to be completely covered but can't be helped I guess.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03788.jpg

finally more little 'sub-models'...

I already have the 307 one but didn't see the 206 one yet.
What is the reference please - EP 0048 is it that ?
Is it one set or several ones together (PE + decals) as for the 307 ?
Where did you purchased it...? I can't find it at Dominomodel.be :frown:

hey Seany, how was the service of mediamix. also is shipping reasonable. I'll like to get a few things I find I like on their site but I'm always somewhat nervous buying stuff on the internet. when I got my SMS decals, they never responded to any of my emails nor telephone calls. I would just like to know if they are good to deal with and I see they use Paypal, but when I click on it, its an error message (do you have to buy the items first before hand before use)

thanks

also, excellent work so far

Mediamix is excellent.100% reliable. You need to put the items into your basket and the Paypal option works fine when you go through the checkout process.

wow shipping was cheaper than many places here in the states. I bought around 65 dollars worth of stuff and shipping was only 11 dollars to ship overseas. I sort of in a spot cause after the f248's and the Nissan I told myself not to do 1/43 cars anymore but I had to get Tommi Makinen's "last Rally" Scubby Impreza. I hope that it will be a nice model to make :)

thanks Steve for the help :)

Nice work so far Sean, it really takes quite a bit of work to build an accurate Evo 3 206 from the Tamiya kit.

Sorry for taking so long to respond to this thread, being on dial up it takes a while for the large pictures to load for me. Guess I need to upgrade my clunky old computer and shell out for broadband hey?

update...

the dashboard as it comes in kit form...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03793.jpg

in the crazy modeler etch set there are vents for the dashboard to replace the moulded versions so I thought I'd give them a try... first I cut out the old ones...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03795.jpg

then shaped the etch versions to fit the curve of the dashboard...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03796.jpg

and here's the result...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03797.jpg

they are ok, not sure if it was worth the time and effort though as they took an eternity to get right but I had to make use of them and give them a try. Here's the dash sprayed grey and black just got to add the details next...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03804.jpg

Also in the crazy modeler set is a substantial amount of pieces to improve the radiator...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03806.jpg

as you can see, this includes separate fans which I decided to pick out in yellow just for a bit of interest...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03807.jpg

and the completed rad...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03808.jpg

finally added further parts to the underside, I am aware that exhaust on the real car is predominantly covered in heat protection but I just thought it looked really scruffy so I have not included it on mine and just added a little weathering using the airbrush and Tamiya weathering sets...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03800.jpg

Making nice progress Sean.

It's really a pity Tamiya never bothered updating the kit correctly so that now you have essentially an incorrect dashboard in the car.

stevenoble

Taking shape now Sean.It all looks really good, particularly all the weathering and shading on the underside. It certainly adds a lot of interest to this area. The fans on the radiator look pretty impressive when installed as well.Nice work

more progress...

onto the suspension & brakes, it seem like a standard procedure now to remove moulded suspension springs. I think we all know how to do this now and is a very easy way to make a big improvement in terms of detail. The only thing to remember is to ensure the struts are just as rigid and strong enough and not to weaken them too much.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03820.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03822.jpg

I use a thick piece of cable which has a rigid metal core and drill each element in order to take the wire. I cant do anymore to the struts until my compressor arrives (hopefully today!)

as for the brakes... well...

the Crazy Modeler set is one of the best I have seen apart from Scale Motorsport sets and these brakes really are stunning, would you believe the following picture is just for one brake disc, there are 13 different pieces...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03832.jpg

the centre section is the starting point and requires each element to be bent from this...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03833.jpg

to this...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03834.jpg

this is then attached to two side pieces which have small recesses to take each slot

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03835.jpg

Having attached both sides there are then two further pieces to attach over the top which the disc details on like this...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03836.jpg

for the centre of the disc this piece requires each element bending into a L shape, you can just make out two element I have shaped at the bottom of the disc here...

a further 3 separate pieces then sit inside this and then they are all attached to the disc itself. Finally on the rar of the disc there are 3 rings which are attached which are designed to fit against the suspension strut.

The finished unpainted disc looks like this, it obviously needs spraying and I havent attached the centre section to make it easier to paint and detail...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03838.jpg

All that remains now is to cut the caliper from the plastic disc and cut a section out in order to accept the etched disc, how I'm going to do that I have not decided yet. All that is for one disc, so I guess I will see you all next year by the time I finish doing these! :-)

the poor pug is feeling a bit left out with all the progress on the Sub. Anyway, where were we... oh yes those 3 million piece brake assemblies.

I chopped off the old moulded calipers and using the old faithfull...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03841.jpg

drilled out a gap wide enough for the new etched discs...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03840.jpg

the finished units look like this...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03848.jpg

With the struts all in place, added all the relevant decals to the wheels, added a little wash for weathering and also drilled a hole for the Sakatsu valves, 'Michelin' tyre markings were a little tight as these are such low profile tyres but we got there in the end.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03871.jpg

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03872.jpg

the remaining parts were added to the underside...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03870.jpg

Then turned my attention to the fuel tank, I removed the raised area as these would be replaced with parts from the Crazy Modeler set and was sanded smooth this was all sprayed matt black and then given a healthy dry brush of grey to pick out the highlights. The jack was handpainted in gloss red as were the two yellow 'things'? Finally the etched parts were added as per the instruction in the set. I am going to add a little further plumbing to this as there is a lot that can still be added and it is really visible through the rear window.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03869.jpg

Finally, the roll cage was masked and given its black part, 'Sparco' decals added and the blue picked out in clear blue.

pawlie here it is, the old (and knackered) one is the larger of the two - I cannot believe how small my new one is, I have tested it this evening and it works like a dream. It features everything I need from variable pressure to a watertrap and is ultra quiet. Unlike the old one it doesnt require oil either, fingers crossed this ones going to last me a lot longer this time...

also a little mobile phone to attach to the dashboard

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03922.jpg

Finally a few details added to the shell...

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/ohanra/Peugeot%20206%20WRC%202003/DSC03933.jpg

It's funny but this Pug really hasnt inspired me anywhere near as much as any of my previous builds. :disappoin It is annoying to see Tamiya cut corners and not replicate the 2003 car accurately. It seems like they have just about used the same mould and just added different decals.

I have also found it difficult to get good reference pictures for the 2003 car so the detail level inside is going to be minimal and knowhere near as complex and the Sub.

thanks for staying tuned.

That's exactly what the did, unfortunately.

I have also found it difficult to get good reference pictures for the 2003 car so the detail level inside is going to be minimal and knowhere near as complex and the Sub.

I sent you everything I have. I found reference material hard to come by too.

Humm sorry but don't you have attached mobil phone support upside down ?

I may have some references in Slideshow book, but maybe do you have it, too ?
If not I will scann Peugeot pages and send them to you.

Regardless of the lack of reference pics, this build is still superb.

sorry Ray, didnt mean to sound ungrateful there. This car seems to be almost as well guarded as F1 in terms of pictures available for it, or maybe knowone was interested enough to take any pics. :frown:

I have the rest of Tamiya's Pugs in the to do pile, however for the 2001 car I have a transkit by renaissance which means opening the doors. :evillol:
Hopefully I'll be a little more inspired with that build than I have here with this one, maybe I will even open up the bonnet and add a motor we'll see.

 Well spotted Phil! No need to send any pics your right, ha-ha! I dont think I'll worry too much though.

... and thanks to everyone again for your kind comments.

Final update for this one too...

Once in a while a build comes along that really uninspires you and you simply dont enjoy it, I'm afraid this has been one of them. There is nothing wrong with the kit in terms of quality however it is so fundamentally inaccurate for us purists it is annoying.
It is a shame half of my tribute build has to be a car that I havent been pleased with but hey-ho, worse things happen at sea I guess eh

I also think I'm not a fan of having more than one project on the go at once, I think you end up with a clear favourite and the lesser liked project gets a little less love as it were! Hopefully my next Pug will be a lot more enjoyable.

I will add a completed thread link here and thanks again to one and all for following.

I agree with you on both statements.I've had plenty of builds just the same.I always start every subject with the same enthusiasm, however sometimes that enthusiasm wanes the further into the build I get and then I end up just wanting to finish the damn thing and move on to something else.
However despite this I think you have made a marvelous job of your Peugeot,it really does look very good. The interior looks so clean and well painted and the body too is excellent.Looking forward to seeing both this and your Subaru when finished.

Very nice work Sean despite your lower emotional involvement http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/klutz100/SMILEYS/oklasky.gif
