hey folks i am new to the board. Do any of you out there have any experience with that static cling window tint? Is it worth getting? I'm not trying for looks, I just wanted a cheap way to have some privacy from my back window.
Of course I don't want it to look really bad, I just want it to look ok, but my main concern is getting some more privacy from my back window, so what do you all think?

if you rally want privacy, go with the black tint cuz my dads rsx has black tint and you cant see sh*t though it. however i have the gay dark blue tint you can get at wal mart. (the guy i bought my car from put it on). it works fine but doesnt look as good as my dads tint. but as for the static stuff, ive never used it, but if you want to take it off at some point in time, you will probably want it, because the adhesive paint is a pain in the ass

yeah, i think i'll take a chance on the static stuff. I think it is only going for 5.99 for a roll at pep boys.
I had a few of those static cling bumper stickers at one point, they stayed on, I guess the tint would be like those.
If it was that terrible I guess it would be off the shelves by now.

The stuff is a pain in the ass to work with, but once it's up it's good. I put some on my wife's front window as a visor and it's been on for 2 years now.

cool, thanks. I bought some. I'm going to give it a try.
I got it at pep boys. Pep boys sucks, is there any other stores around that sell it, they did not have a big selection there.

They dont have a big selection because that tint does not work or look good. Yes Pep Boys does SUCK! My mom tried to be cheap a few years back & got 4 tires installed, after they stripped 2 wheel locks. I did a wheel balance on it 15K & noticed all 4 rims where bent, inside lips(from the tire machine). I went back to Pep Boys & bitched, ended up getting a set of rims that I installed myself correctly - fucking butchers

The static cling tint that is sold at Pep Boys is the same company that Walmart sells. You don't need super exquisite expensive static cling tint. Just get the small box. It's just enough for the whole windshield.

when it comes to tints just get them done professionally... it was like 100 for mine and they look great.

the price varies drastically depending on where you live though, Where I am, it's 250, and I went to like, 3 other places, all 250. I used the static cling window tint when I had my civic. the sides are easy, but the back is a pain cuz of the angle.

i'd like to take it somewhere, but I don't have 100 dollars to spare on the car right now. Putting it all toward a house down payment, so I just want something that'll keep people from looking in so easily.

did it in 2 peices, the left side stuck perfectly (better than I pictured it would turn out). But the Right half won't stay on for more than an hour, it just peels off. I cleaned the glass and put it back up a total of 3 times, I have given up.
so now I have a half tinted window. I don't know whether I should peel the other side off and give up, or go buy another roll of the crap and give it another try.

Dudes,
Regarding the static tint; my buddy did his car with the really dark (limo) tint (I think it's 5%) and it looks really, really good. So i tried it on my car too (bought the stuff at Walmart (married, mortgage, 3 yr old, two cars...can't afford to pay $150 bucks plus) and I have to say, I think it looks great (did the rear sides only). I had better luck than you apparently, because mine hasn't peeled at all. I would seriously consider calling/writing the manufacturer as suggested on the box. Or just peel off the whole thing, roll it up and bring it back to Walmart. They're cool with returning products--used or otherwise. If you have an AutoZone or AutoMart near you, they both sell the static tint.
As a side note; I know that there are some who like to tint their drivers side and passanger side front windows--it does look great--however, I know that it is against the law in the state of New Jersey to tint those front windows or the windshield--unless it was done at the factory--because apparently there have been police shootings whereby the police have been caught off guard by guns some thugs have been hiding behind the tint when they get pulled over--window rolls down-n-bang! Not cool at all.
So check with your local authorities before spending a lot of dough on the permanent stuff (by the way; you might be able to get away with not getting a ticket if you have the static cling stuff and you ask the cop if he/she would consider not giving you a ticket if you were to peel it off right infront of the cop...) The law in NJ is that you can have 20% on the side/rear, and as dark as you want it for the back window.
Hope this helps.
Peace,
Don

As it ended up, I just peeled it off and returned the stuff to pep boys with no problem. It was all cut up and just shoved back in the box too. No big deal. It was an experience.
