Cool Ford Escort Mk I RS2000 ...sort of

Hello,

what a strange coincidence that TZ2 and I built the same model with almost the same parts at the same time.
However, mine differs from his a little.

Base kit: Eddicola Fabbri Quattroruote Edition 1969 Ford Escort Mk I 1300GT

I used the following Scale Production parts to convert it to the RS2000:

1x Decal set Ford Escort Mk I RS2000 (available some decades ago)
4x 13" aluminium wheels
4x photoetched RS inserts
4x low profile slicks
1x intercooler

The additional headlights are Tamiya Renault 5 Turbo Rallye items and the Cibie decals are from a friends
"leftover decals" box. The exhaust pipe is a piece of Evergreen rod...

I painted the door handles and wipers semi-flat black, even though this might not be 100% accurate.
I just like it better that way. The decal kit was actually made for the old SP Escort resin kit, hence
the trunk decal doesn't fit the more accurate Fabbri shape. I painted the rear valance flat black to avoid a "naked" look.

Other than that it's stock, no work has been done with the interior. I might add some old school racing buckets
and a roll cage later...

Allright, on to the pics:

Original Fabbri:

Minus bumpers, ride height and pea-shooter exhaust.
Plus additional headlights and intercooler:

Plus RS2000 and Cibie decals:

BTW: the decals are reeaaaallly old and cracked in a few places when I applied them (visible below the fuel filler cap)

I know it's not a plastic model, but this might be interesting for all modelers.
Please do not move the thread to die-cast section. Thanks.

Other than the incorrect headlamps, this looks superb! Makes me pine for my '74 black Mk1 Mexico....

To clarify, this is 24th?

Yes, it is. Search for "Fabbri Editori" at the famous internet auction site
There are plenty of interesting, average weekday-cars.

Nice model, Sebastian! But may i say, i expect a bit more from you than decals and wheels?!
There´s another version i remember from a Hill/Spencer-movie you could take this model for.

Hi Julian,

well... the clock is ticking and will not stop until the model show in Jabbeke opens it's doors. Therefore I'm rushing it a little and skip things like interior detailing (will do that before FFM, though). Concerning the movie car you mentioned: I've never seen this one before. Interesting topic, that's for sure.
I did have those SP decals in the box and they do fit the Fabbri Escort nicely.

If you send me an Escort I might build the Spencer/Hill version next

Wow, cool model.
I actually have a Ford Escort Mk1 1300Gt 1972-model. This is my street-car, and i love it. If i shall complain about something , there is some parts that is wrong to this model(rs2000).
The back-panel should not be black. The headlamps are wrong. An rs2000 has bigger wheelarches on the frontfenders than a standard 1300gt.
But anyway, this is a very cool model

Well... there are a few around in Europe. Try www.ebay.de or www.ebay.it, searching for Edicola Fabbri. They don't come that cheap though, but are well worth the money.
