ratty '49 chevy pickup

just picked this one at the hobby shop (with 2 more ) and i couldn't wait to start working on it!

so here is the begining!

the kit:

dry fit of the cab

the cutting lines

cutted the top and glued the first part

some epoxy putty

the rims that came with it but i hate chrome i took the original ones and glued it to the chrome ones and tadda! chrome ring with steel rims! also changed the tires since they were really too small for that kind of truck

primed and painted the body! the color is flat dark yellow from tamiya. i will do some weathering on it and add some rust here and there.

my idea is to build this truck to tow my ford hot rod so i'm building a trailer too right now!

more updates to come!

Re: ratty '49 chevy pickup

here's a lil update!

for those who would like to make rust, here's a simple how to!

first, you need the part! duh!

and then, a weathering kit from tamiya

now, you brush some gun metal onto the surface you want some rust. just to get it a bit dirty

a lil shot of flat brown paint

now it's fun time! when the paint is dry, apply some glue to the spot that will be rusted. before it dries, pour some flour on it. this will add the texture of the rust

wich will give this

then you just need to brush some rust color that is in the weathering kit, wich give this result!

hope this will be usefull

other parts: i painted the inner part of the grill flat black

and a lil shot of rust!

front bumper done. rusted, crooked and dented

rusted rear fender

front fender

and a quick view of the front

more to come as i still working on it right now!

don't be shy to leave some comments!

Re: ratty '49 chevy pickup

Thanks for the weathering tips! I'm slowly working on a well-used highway tractor, and I've never weathered before. Great job!
