Rothmans Porsche 962C (Revell)

Hi lads,
I decided to buil this easy kit during the Christmas break becouse I want to test Rothmans Zero Paints before I put them on Rothmans Tamiya kits
Anyway I'm going to use tobacco decal sheet from Museum Collection (Rothmans instead of Racing)

The Revell (reboxed Hasegawa) is a good and cheap choice, although there are some minor problems with little touchoups you can do a great looking model.
Problems:
Too narrow side windows
Wheel cover on the rear need spacers
No tobacco decals
non-steering wheels
Tire decals as ordinary decals so you have to airbrush them with matt acrylic paint (otherwise they will get silver)

But I'm building this along with Hasegawa XJR-8 LM kit and it's proceesing fast, I like it

Refference picture

The wheel covers need 4mm spacers

I've added two 4mm spaces + the belt 4mm x 25 mm for the wheel cover so that you can't see trough

Then I've painted the trims with Tamiya X18, the masks are done while following this tutorial from Alex Kustov
http://italianhorses.net/Tutorials/W...asks/masks.htm

Mock Up on primered body The Windows + lights fit well, so don't worry.

Very nice start.
I'll be watching this one.
And where is the WIP for the Hasegawa XJR-8 LM

Re: Rothmans Porsche 962C (Revell)

Masking for the Rothmans blue (or Lolmans blue? )

The result, most of the bleeding blue colour will be covered by a decal

Errors which need to correct

Re: Rothmans Porsche 962C (Revell)

Looks good.
You can use a little polish and the overspray may wipe right off.

Looking good indeed.
Nice masking job.

And Chris already gave you a great tip to remove the overspray...

Re: Rothmans Porsche 962C (Revell)

So I've polished oversprayed places and the blue went off (however I forgot to take down the blue from the doors, you can see it on Driver's names) Thank you Chris for this tip

Cartograf decals in the kit were superb to work with. Very thin, almost no edges and soft. I've used only water + hairdrayer to achieve this. Nevertheless their dissadvantage is that they got silver once they're dry >> you have to apply a clearcoat and polish

Museum Collection (Rothmans markings) weren't so thick, also there was a noticeable edge + the Rothmans logo's edges are YELLOW while Cartograf provide GOLD so that's not that great! But thanks to their thickness they create a smooth surface (they don't depend on your smooth paintjob as thin Cartograf do)

On the doors the red stripe doesn't correctly, need to repaint.

Also I recommend to cut the decals with X Acto knife on 2-3 places to make it easier

Golden or yellow edges?

Re: Rothmans Porsche 962C (Revell)

Very nice job.
These kits are a bit rough around the edges but always seem to look all right in the end. Plus your just doing a great job on the build!

What are your thoughts on the Zero color now that you've shot it?
Will you use it for the Tamiya kit?

Chris

Re: Rothmans Porsche 962C (Revell)

Hell yeah! These paints are really great to work with. The blue looks accurate, on Tamiya one I will use more layers becouse on this build I've stripped some blue when polishing the wing
Also the bottle is that large that for one car is that way too much
My goal is to do all these in rothmans colors:
Le Mans 1982
Le Mans 1983
Le Mans 1986 or 87
This Revell one (Monza 1986)
And I've heard that one company is going to make 1985 Brands Hatch winning decals on 962C

Anyway after the work with Museum Collection decals I have to be more aware, from the refference photos I can see that the stripes were Golden not Yellow!

Re: Rothmans Porsche 962C (Revell)

Ok, something is already done but the pics will be later

I've clearcotaed the decals with Tamiya TS13 Clear, after two day cure it was a surprise for me to see white dots on the side of the car They are between the Rothmans and Golden stripe on the side + the front fender. However my plan was to do some afeter race weathering so it wont be visible. I'm just curious why such things happen? I've never had problem with TS13... (or 13 brings bad luck!)
