choosing major (automotive school) help
I am getting ready to take Automotive this fall at the tech school here and I want to know what is the best route for me to go. They have a 2 year Automotive Technology degree and a 2 year Automotive collision repair diploma. Would I be better off in the long run going 4 years and getting both of these? Or just one of these? If just one which one would be better in the long run career wise?

Re: choosing major (automotive school) help
I would say take both.
I took auto and diesel because I knew I could work on cars but I thought diesel would be cool too. That gave me something to fall back on if I didnt like diesel, I made the right choice for me...I have never wanted to change back to working on cars. Maybe if your decision is a toss up between auto and body, you will like body a lot more in the long run...but I say if you can afford it then do both to cover your @$$, and it will help you decide what is better for you. |

Re: choosing major (automotive school) help
I agree both would be good to have if you can afford 4 years. If you end up doing body repair, knowing how to diagnose/repair electrical problems would be great. I've seen some wrecked cars that had broken wires that were twisted together and taped.
The collision repair industry definately needs more competent technicians.
