Scale Modelworld UK 2007 - photo report

My buddy, Dan and I made yet another 170 mile trip up from Southampton to Telford yesterday - always worthwhile or course, as it's a great opportunity to catch up with friends, swap stories and checkout some superb car and bike models.
At this year show, there seemed to be a resurgence of interest in car modelling, confirmed by the fact that non-IPMS club, Les Garagiste, were invited to display with the Sigs and IPMS clubs that have one or two car modellers amongst a sea of aircraft modellers.
Here's some photo's I took of what for me were personal highlights from the show. Excuse my amateur effort's here, I'm just getting used to my new SLR!! Enjoy

Les Garagiste overall display view

And on the same stand..The bikes....

And some car highlights...a line up of Le Mans cars included this gorgeous Bugatti..

This Mclaren was very nice..

There was 1/43rd scale F1 too..

A lovely line up of 20th F1 including these...

Checkout the flame paint on this one!!

and this beauty...

and Alex Payne's MFH Sharknose Ferrari...

And Mike Easter's superb 1/12th Lotus 72D..

and finally a nice line up of 206WRC's including an unusual Gauloises version..

On the Car and Motorcycle sig stand was this cracking Lotus Cortina..

and from a Revell easy kit, this 1/32nd VW Dakar rally raider of Jutta Kleinschmidt.

and a 1/9th Jawa speedway bike..

The centre of their display was this American Diner theme..

The F1 Sig display...

A Datsun 240 seen on the East Nuek stand..

On the IPMS Barnet stand were these by Tim Harris..

and his carbon Porsche 911GT1...

I didn't capture the flip paint job on the Skyline too well, but it was superb..

The North West club had some great cars and bike as always including these...

I had the pleasure in seeing some of Pat Watson's expanding GrpB rally car collection first hand..This Audi S1 was awesome..

And his Tamiya Peugeot with Rennaisance Evo2 conversion..wow..

Two views of his 037 Lancia...

His A2 using the Rennaisance TK...

Andy Wright's #46 2004 M1 was exquisite..

Cars took the centre of the Norfolk club display...

and they even had space for custom vans from the club chairman..

and how about this Porsche K8...

This chopped and slamm'd Beetle was nice..seen on the North Somerset stand..

And so onto the competition tables. Entries seemed down on recent years, but there was quality in abundance. I recognised a few models, so I can place some names to them;

Vaclav Kolinsky #46 Valencia Honda got a bronze..

Steve Lorriman's scratchbuilt Triumph was brilliant. Commended...

Silver was awarded to Guy Golsteyn's 2004 Ducati

And Gold went to Shane Price's 2006 Honda of Casey Stoner..

Gold was awarded to Guy's M23 Mclaren. The detail on this was done with such finess..it was jaw dropping..

This porky Porsche got a bronze..

This Ferrari 250GT wasn't awarded but was great...

Shane Price's 20th Brabham won gold..

This Porsche 917 was one a my favourites..excellent finish.

This box stock Porsche got gold..I think this is Guy's too!

This version of the Mclaren SLR was ignored by the judges...

A 650 beemer diorama..

A top fuel dragster...engine detail was very good..

And finally, this 80% scratchbiult Matra MS10 in 20th took a gold..Model by Marco Peretti

So, there we have it. My apologies if your model wasn't photographed. there were many more on display. Thanks to all who did, and to the chaps at Les Garagiste and the Norfolk club guys for making me feel welcome. You know who you are.
Remember - if you like what you see here, don't foget to come along to Telford, England on Sunday April 6th, 2008 to the Modelsport show. It's held next door to the exhibition centre, in the hotel. You'll see plenty more like this and benefit Riders for Health at the same time. See you there.

Wow looks like a great show. I wish we had that many cars show up at the local show here.

Re: Scale Modelworld UK 2007 - photo report

You all need to remember one thing, he said he had to go over 100 miles to get to the show. Where I'm from that's not that far. I have driven up to 300 miles to get to a decent model show (in Memphis, Tennesee) only to show up late by 3 minutes, and the guys wouldn't let me enter the contest.

ANY WHO! What a great turn out for the show, I'm sure there are ALOT more than what you have shown. I wish I could have been there.

Yeah, me too! Fantastic show. The bikes were especially amazing. It's not easy to take such good "piccies" on the fly, but the Sheene Machine did a great job.

Wonder why automotive modeling isn't as popular here as it is in Europe?

Is there an English-language magazine that features cars like these and the techniques used by European modelers? Maybe we Yanks can learn a thing or ten.

These are great. I was really impressed with the subjects that are not so familiar to me in model form, especially the bike with the sidecar and that little #162 white car. It would have been a blast to see this show in person, thanks for sharing.
