ebtcm module help
I am on need of some info on the ebtcm module . i had my abs scanned by a dealership and was told the electronic brake trac control mudule was bad. the price i was given to replace it was $ 1,800. i found one elsewhere for $120 and figured that was a better way to go. I have no idea where the ebtcm is located or how to go about changing it. there seems to be very little info anywhere online about it. if anyone could help me out with some info it would help me out a bunch. $1,680 worth. ( : as always greatly appreciated

Re: ebtcm module help
What year is your Grand Prix?
This recently discussed thread may help. See link below. Most likely it will be the module at the ABS modulator/motorpack under the hood where the electrical connector is. Something like four screws hold it on. Click here

Re: ebtcm module help
It is applicable and the same. The EBTCM is not located in the dash like older ABS systems. That is where the confusion lies. The EBTCM module for '97 - '03 Grand Prixs is integrated into the ABS modulator located under the brake master cylinder. It is a Bosch 5.3 ABS system. See link below which will give you an idea where the module is located. Scroll down to the illustration.

Re: ebtcm module help
I not 100% sure or whether that is a good idea. But there should be a GM part number on the front of that pump/ebtcm module. Look for a number that says for example 18023760. Alot of GM cars even if different platforms use the same parts but it is better to verify it will work. Good luck.

Re: ebtcm module help
i thank you for the help! i just finished replacing the module and it works like a charm . no more lights! only thing is the spongy pedal from disconnecting the brake lines. from what i found online after replacing the abs pump the brakes must be bled with a vaccum bleeder. do i need to have this done somewhere or is it possible for me to bleed them without some fancy tool?

Re: ebtcm module help
Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad we finally got this mystery solved.
Personally, I would take it to a Pro as long as they do not charge too much. I know of a few instances where the ABS pump can be bled using gravity similar to the same method when you replace brake pads and/or caliper but it is time consuming and may not work 100%.
