Arrow It's a Schnitzer 635csi Spa Winner!!!

Hi mis amigos!
Time to share my fourth build so far.

First let me tell you a little story:
While my daily check for new stuff on HLJ I noticed in nice bold letters the In stock for an Enthusiast kit from fujimi (EM-30). I have read nice things about them here so, to give a little twist to my all tamiya stock pile I decided to take a chance and order this one. One month later it arrived and I was shocked to see so many parts, so much flash, so many tiny pieces, so much detail, many fragile parts, so many pin holes, etcetera. It really got me!

I had to make this car immediately, no matter my short experience, the challenges it will represent. So, I started.

I have to tell you that I'm more ahead in the build but wanted to start my first WIP so this pics are ones that I took before, this will assure updates on a regular basis. Eventually I will catch up with the current status. I have more than 100 pics so this will be image intensive.

So let's start!!! sorry for too long an introduction

First the Front Strut Bar, the one fujimi give us is badly molded and doesn't fit rigth so a better one is in order.

Started by hitting an alluminium tube of the size to shape the strut bar.

Yeah! much better!

Checking the shape...

Let's hide the hammer treatment

Drilling holes for the reinforcements

Cutting the mounting points. I used 0.3 mm styrene to make a better fit on them... you know... it mealts with plastic cement so it conforms to the complex shape better.

The result. Oh! I remember the strut bar braking! that's why I re made it in the first place very soft this fujimi plastic caution! more on this later...

Started to glue the mounts. I drilled the bolts so I can replace them.

Let's see if all fits.

The strut bar with the reinforcements as it is today. Will atach it until I finish the engine bay.

Next update: My advance on the engine. Stay tuned!

As always advice, good or bad comments, referance pics, questions etc are more than welcome! Offers to make free turned parts also welcome!

Thanks for watching.

Re: It's a Schnitzer 635csi Spa Winner!!!

As promissed the engine.

Thanks for the replies guys! 2 out of 275 views... bad record! LOL

I would like to point out that from what I can assume by referances this '85 Spa winner chasis E24 RA2-34 driven by Roberto Ravaglia, Gerhard Berger & Marc Surer had the 3475 cc variant of the legendary L6 M30 engine, M30b35 to be exact. The one with 3.5 on the intake manifold not the 3.2/3.5 wanna be. Fujimi got that right but saddly the moulding of this was horrible, offseted and shallow so I had to sand it down loosing this important piece of information

I have made a lot of changes / improvements on this engine, let me show you.

Not fujimi or Tamiya have the casting lines on the intake so I made them by carving the plastic were needed and glueing very thin wires to simulate them.

What Fujimi offer for plug wire organizer is... a joke so I made this. Drilled all the holes passed the wires and remade the distributor attachments. Had to use thinner wire in this end because I had to get out 7 wires 6 for plugs 1 for the coil.

Also I made the trottle linkage body as close to original according to referances.

This is the beautifully molded getrag transmission this kit includes, my only regret is that I didn't had my airbrush running at this time so I had to brush paint all of the engine as you can see in the rough finnish of it

Here you can see the only piping work so far, plus various added / modified elements: The alternator is scratch builded or should I say "scratch carved" from the original no detail at all Fujimi offering. The Oil check needle is added detail also. The Mounting of the intake is scratch also because Fujimi didn't offer one. This mounting is for 3.5 engines, 3.2/3.5 engines had 2 mountings on top at each side of the intake.

The headers were painted a reddish matt color found on referances in dissagrement of the Fujimi instructions (matt alluminium), because at this time the rules said that the original production car headers had to be used.

1/1 engine

I have the heat shield made but not attached, I have to connect the throttle cable and other wires also, I have to weather a bit the headers so, this is not finished but wanted to show you my advance so far.

Made the pics smaller to help the 56k users but as always original size pics are on my fotki site

Next update: Suspension

Thanks for viewing!!!

Beautiful! Great work on the engine - very realistic. I think the brush painitng actually worked well on the engine, to give it a rough cast-metal look.

Re: It's a Schnitzer 635csi Spa Winner!!!

Great detailing. I especially like the dip stick and the type plate on the getrag tranny.
I'm looking forward to this build as I'm planning to build a fujimi 635 myself sometime.
