Heard a rumor that Revell is selling 'European subsidiary'.

I saw a post on another forum that said Revell was selling a 'European subsidiary'...I assume this means RoG, anyone heard anything in more detail?

Re: Heard a rumor that Revell is selling 'European subsidiary'.

It's already sold. Jim Haught posted the press release at Scale Auto's site. I saw the reference w/no info. on Hobby Heaven, however my posting days there ended a year ago for a myriad of reasons.

Sounds like a pretty transparent (to the hobbiest) changeover; sale was to people who are already involved in the running of Revell AG (or whatever they call themselves).

Here's the press release:

The Revell Group Sells European Subsidiary

Northbrook, Illinois – 14 September 2006. The Revell Group USA has sold its European company, Revell GmbH, to a group of outside investors led by the Revell GmbH executive management team.

The sale of Revell Europe will strengthen the financial resources of Revell Monogram USA and will enable it to focus on expanding its current product offerings, as well as its future product development programs.

Under the terms of the sale, the operating agreement which was crafted jointly by both the North American and European operating divisions permits Revell Monogram to be exclusively responsible in all North American markets for all Revell and non-Revell branded products and Revell GmbH will be exclusively responsible in all European markets for all Revell and non-Revell branded products.

All remaining global markets will be serviced jointly by the companies under a perpetual agreement governing sales, marketing and intellectual property. The agreement which was crafted by the parties was based in great part upon the existing agreement which has guided the working relationship
between the two divisions since 1992. The result is that there will be no discernible difference in the day to day business activities between the two companies.

so does this mean that we (here in the US) won't be seeing any more RoG kits? I know mail order is available, but it's not cheap to get one or two kits mailed across the atlantic for some reason.

Where in the world do you get that assumption from this press release? If anything I'd expect Revell Europe's stuff to be easier to find in the future, and Revell US stuff easier to find in other world markets in the future. Read the press release carefully.

Edit: Someone else explained it easier in layman's terms: Basically, Revell of Germany bought itself. The group that runs R of G bought the company from Revell USA and signed a new 25 year contract to continue working in conjunction with Revell USA, thus there will be no notable changes.
