1996 1.9 About 6 months ago the radiator cooling fan stopped. Would not come on any time, even with AC in on position. I changed out the temp sensor on driver side of engine...no effect, checked the relays after much searching and following the wires to the hidden relays down under the air intake gizmol. They work fine, good wire, good contact. I didn't know what else to check so I unplugged the factory fan wires at the fan, and set them aside, installed a direct wire from the fuse block ACC (shuts off power when key is removed), through the firewall to the fan. From the fan low speed to a switch under hood and to ground. The fan just runs all the time when the car is on. We didn't have any problems for quite a while, passed inspection...etc. The only weird effect was when the car was turned off, it would run a few seconds after shut-off...till the fan stopped. But all else seemed OK. Recently it started dying intermittantly. We found that wiggling wires under the dash would let it start. This weekend we removed all the shrouding under steering and found darked, oxidized and burned wires from ignition switch. The red/green wire was burned at ignition switch, at the connector where it becomes the blue wire was also burned. Two larger wires, black/orange were slightly burned and get hot..maybe 130 to 140F. They connect to two black wires that go to a white plastic opening up under the dash. What is this? Is it the EEC? How do I get to it? How do I fix it? change it? replace it? Maybe the two things are related. The manuals don't tell me anything.
