Revell 1:24 Red Bull RB8

Hi

Wohoo a finished model from me. Not that is a big a complicated model though - 'just' a simple 1:24 Revell thingie - but they are worlds apart from Revells early offerings. Not very detailed I know, but makes a pretty desktopmodel. The model has some details inside that will be absolutely impossible to see, so they were left out. The coolers with intakes, as well as the inlet for the engine. I assembled the sidepods and bottom of front tub first to get rid of seam lines. In that way had to leave out the coolers as there is no way I found to mount them AND get the bodywork on afterwards due to the undercuts in the sidepods.

Colours? Oh I have tried lots. The socalled Red Bull blue TS-89... Way off. Way too light metallic blue. Zero paints spot on - but despite having a proper well dried Tamiya primer, the solvents in the Zero paints crazed the surface no matter how slowly I did the job. Arghhh!!! Plan B was to match Zero colour with TS paints. TS51 was too light in itself, but with a dark undercoat of TS55 it looks the part. Dark metallic blue with a slight purple tint. Yellow is Finisher Camel yellow, Probably too orange but matches the decals perfectly. Decals are excellent by the way with a lot of carbon, but use plenty of decal softner like DACO "strong" and leave them to dry. They tend to crack - like the Red Bull on the engine cover and the Red Bull legends on the side pods. The only addition I made was a carbon decal below the front tub. I wish that one could get the proper "chess board" like carbon decals that would be more correct though.

Plenty of Gunze cleat to seal the decals. Job done.

The kit is really well engineered. Like the rear wing that simply pops in. Not one of these mountings that depends on a prayer. Good job Revell.

Best regards

Flemming

Your build looks terrific! Starting this one myself and wondering if you put the side pods together first and if so, how did the body fit onto the chassis? Thanks for the color tip, I think I have TS51 & TS55 already so don't have to try and find paint.

Nice job! These Revell F1 kits look really fun to build. I may just have to pickup one of these sometime.

Hi

Body to chassis fit is almost LEGO like. No problems at all.

Best regards

Very nice work Flemming and nice tip about the colours. I like the Revell kits even though they get a hammering from many.

Congratulations flhansen!

I've just look at the pictures of your work and It's a very nice model.
The aspect of Carbon fibre decals is very good also! I think you needed a lot of patience for applying them .-)

I'm finishing a Revell Model 1/24 scale (Ferrari F2007) and I agree with you that the subjects aren't very detailed, but It is possible to realize pretty desktopmodel

Nice job on a great looking car. I really like the Red Bull logos on cars. They look sharp.
