Porsche 917k, Salzburg, Fujimi 1/24
Hi
I finally got aroud to build a new one: Fujimis 917k kit is available in about 10 versions, this time I did the 1970 LeMans winner. There is not much to add about the kit - no engine, but ok. The decals, as almost always with Fujimi, are not that opaque, which is not optimal for white decals over red paint. Therefore I tried the BvH decals, which are very opaque - but break when trying to lay them around an edge. E.g. I was not able to lay them around the edge of the front wheel houses; the louvres on top of the front wheels are also hand painted. The shell decals were too big for the place in front of the front wheels, so the end result is a mix of BvH and kit decals, the latter with the white areas doubled up if possible. I alsow used the Studi27 etched parts... at least some of them. The wipers are nice, but I think too big; the rear flaps are ok, I also used some fasteners. But e.g. I did not use the brak disks as they would have fit only on the rear brakes. I think the Fujimi set included in the 71 Sebring Martini version looks better. I used to not have problems with the clear coat, but the last couple of kits I had some problems. I managed to polish a lot of the faults out, but not all of them. The decal-mix reacted with the clear, too, even though I laid down some mist coats first. It looks better on the photos than it really is. Painted with TS8 and Zero 1k clear; I used Leukosilk belts, S27 etched parts and BvH decals. Hope you like it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The Salzburg livery is one my favorites, great job on a beautiful car.

Yes sexy indeed,so much so I bought one on ebay a couple of hours ago, the heller offering.they make lovely lemans cars now but those from back in the 70s were some of the sexiest cars ever.i got a ferrari 512 on my pile and simply had to have a 917.
