Subaru BRZ - Trackday/drifter

Hi everybody !

I have just started a new project - The Tamiya Subaru BRZ.

Itīs a quite basic kit with a molded engine but it still has some nice features ! As some of you already know this is the same car as the Toyota GT86 and the Scion FR-S and itīs a small car with a 4-cylinder boxerengine.

At first glance I didnīt think this is a good looking car..

But after seeing one up close and also dryfitting the model I think the car is getting better looking every time !

But I donīt wanna build it OOB.. and after seeing this:

.. Which is a D1GP GT86, I started to lean against a drifter.. So starting with the kit.. Here you can see the interior..

I decided to trash this and instead build a new interior with the help of plastic cards from Evergreen in different shapes and sizes.. And so far I have come this far over a few hours..

As you can see I have also made a start of the rollcage.. it will have a full cage offcourse ! There is still ALOT of work to be done so donīt judge it to hard just yet ! The goal is to get something close to this:

I will build up a b-pillar similar to the one in the pictures so I can build the supports between the cage and b-pillar.. I am planning to remove the windows on the doors so there will be alot of interiordetail visible, So I will do my best to detail it as much as possible !

And this is the progress of the interior so far:

And some more inspirational photos that I have found on the internet

And also a mockup with the body - The plan with the body is to build some wider arches and a small lip to the front.. nothing major since I still wanna keep it rather simple and smooth-looking The rims and tires on these pictures are from a Peugeot 206 WRC and they are just fitted to get the look of it.. But thanks to these wheels I still donīt know if I will build it as a drifter or a trackracer.. I usually donīt like drifting but I really like the look of the white/black/green-car

I hope you will be following the progress of it !

Re: Subaru BRZ - Trackday/drifter

Thanks for the replies so far, guys !

Regarding the wheels - as I wrote in the first post I probably wonīt be using these rims.. they are just fitted since I just want to know how it look since I will be using rims and tires with the same size !

Re: Subaru BRZ - Trackday/drifter

I have been working alot on this one and I have made some progress !

I have puttied the interior and made the B-pillars.

I still have a lot of work to do.. Sanding and get the shape done of the interior.. but here you can see the basic shape of it.

I have also made a start on the body.. Building a wider bodykit. Started sanding and shaping it.. I think it starts to look like something !

And I have decided to make it as a driftcar.. But I canīt really decide on what color or livery.. I have 2 choices.. Either a Red Bull-scheme close to the Rhys Millen Genesis..

.. Or something close to the latest Fiesta of Ken Block.. I really like the idea with 3 green wheels and one black.. and the whole scheme looks fantastic !

What do you guys think so far..?

Best regards,

Rickard

Re: Subaru BRZ - Trackday/drifter

frederic aasbo's chronicled the build of his 86 drifter over at speedhunters.com, this should help you with references.

Re: Subaru BRZ - Trackday/drifter

Nice work so far Richard. Looking forward to seeing more. Quick question, the 5 spoke rims you have in your first post mock up, what manufacturer are they from? Or which kit?. They are exactly what Im looking for for an upcoming build I am collecting parts for at the moment.

Thanks,

David
